I hosted a movie night with my friends last Friday, and we decided to rewatch Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
When we got to the scene where Mace Windu leads three Jedi Masters to confront Palpatine, everyone was shocked at how quickly Palpatine took them out. Then one of my friends said, “Man, if Mace had brought a different trio, Palpatine wouldn’t have stood a chance.”
That comment stuck with me. What if Mace had picked a stronger backup team?
So, I started thinking—if I could replace those three Jedi, who would I choose? Here are my top three picks for Jedi who I believe could’ve helped Mace capture Palpatine more easily.
If you’ve got your own picks, let me know!

Kelleran Beq
Kelleran Beq might not be the most obvious choice for a confrontation like this, but I believe his skills and mindset make him a perfect addition to Windu’s team.
Known by the nickname “Sabered Hand,” Kelleran is renowned for his exceptional lightsaber combat abilities. He’s one of the rare Jedi who can wield two lightsabers simultaneously with incredible precision—a feat that demands extraordinary skill and discipline.
We see a perfect example of his expertise during Order 66 when Kelleran Beq heroically saves Grogu.
With Kelleran by his side, Mace Windu would have a partner who could match Palpatine’s speed and unpredictability.
Cin Drallig
We’ve already got one Jedi with the Sabered Hand, but now it’s time for someone who’s perfect for backing up Mace Windu: Cin Drallig, the Jedi Battlemaster.
Cin was a legend in the Order, known for his insane lightsaber skills and for being the guy who trained countless Jedi in combat. Officially, he was the Battlemaster and Chief of Security for the Jedi Temple during the Clone Wars.
Unofficially, some called him “the Troll,” a nickname that came from his tough teaching style—but it’s hard to argue with the results.
Trained by none other than Yoda himself, Cin eventually took over as head of the Jedi Temple Guard and became the go-to expert on lightsaber combat.
Now imagine him alongside Mace Windu during the arrest of Palpatine. With his deep knowledge of lightsaber forms and his ability to counter any opponent’s moves, Cin could’ve been the game-changer the Jedi needed to bring the Sith Lord down. If there was ever a time for a Jedi with his expertise, that was it.
Plo Koon
Plo Koon is one of the most respected Jedi Masters in Star Wars, and for good reason. He was one of the few Jedi capable of using Electric Judgment—a controlled variant of Force lightning.
True to his character, Plo only used it when absolutely necessary, reflecting his deep sense of justice and restraint.
With Kelleran Beq’s precision, Cin Drallig’s mastery of combat, and now Plo Koon’s calm leadership and unique abilities, this group would have been unstoppable.
Backed by Mace Windu, the second-strongest Jedi in the Order, I have no doubt they could have captured Palpatine long before Anakin could interfere.
