Let’s be real—Reva Sevander’s journey in Obi-Wan Kenobi has stirred up some strong opinions. If you’re like me, you probably noticed some moments where her character felt a bit off, maybe even frustrating.
Despite all that, I think Moses Ingram did an amazing job with Reva. As an actor, she brought intensity, grit, and dedication to every scene.
Let’s break down why Reva’s character struggled and how Ingram’s acting still made her one of the most talked-about parts of the show.
Reva’s Character Struggles Due to Bad Writing, Not Moses Ingram’s Acting
Reva Sevander isn’t exactly a fan-favorite in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
I couldn’t help but feel that Reva’s role in certain moments seemed shoehorned in, disrupting the natural flow of the story.
Think about that rooftop scene, where she’s chasing Obi-Wan and Leia with this over-the-top parkour sequence.
Sure, it’s visually cool, but did we really need that? It seemed like the show was trying a bit too hard to make her look intense, but it didn’t really add anything meaningful to her character.
And then there’s the big issue with her duel against Darth Vader. I mean, surviving a lightsaber stab from Vader? That’s pretty much unheard of.
We don’t usually see anyone just walk away from a fight with him. For a lot of us watching, it just felt unrealistic.
It’s one of those moments where the story feels stretched a bit too far, making it harder to stay invested in Reva’s journey.
Now, we’ve seen this kind of survival before with Darth Maul, but Maul’s case was different. His survival made sense because he was driven by pure hatred and used the dark side to stay alive.
But Reva was just a youngling during Order 66—she didn’t have that kind of mastery over the dark side yet.
Her survival felt a bit too convenient, almost like it was just there to keep her in the story, which took away some of the believability and connection we might’ve felt for her character.
Despite all of that, I believe Moses Ingram did exactly what she was supposed to do in playing Reva.
She delivered the character as written and put her all into making Reva compelling. I mean, think about it—as an actor, she’s following a script and working with the material she’s given. What else can she do, right?
Ingram brought intensity and dedication to the role, and she definitely gave Reva the fierce energy the character was meant to have.
Even if Reva’s storyline had its issues, Ingram’s performance brought something memorable to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
And honestly, I’m not the only one who feels this way.
Plenty of fans across the internet are saying the same thing—they see the flaws in Reva’s story arc, but they also see how Ingram gave it her all and nailed the character’s persona.
Here is one example from u/kiwiiikee “I don’t necessarily hate her. I just hate the character of Third Sister. She has got to have some of the strongest plot armor I’ve ever seen in Star Wars. The fact that every single little thing just HAPPENED to go her way in Obi-Wan was absolutely infuriating to me.”
Moses Ingram – A Good Actress Ruined by Bad Writing
If you’ve seen The Queen’s Gambit, then you already know Moses Ingram has some serious acting talent. Remember her as Jolene?
There’s this one scene where Jolene confronts Beth about her self-destructive habits. Ingram gives us a friend who’s tough and resilient, yet deeply caring, with every line packed with sincerity.
You can feel Jolene’s frustration and love for Beth in the way Ingram plays it, making the moment powerful and real.
Ingram took what could have been a straightforward side character and made Jolene stand out.
She brought out Jolene’s inner strength while showing her vulnerability, especially in those quieter scenes where she opens up about her past.
As a viewer, you feel drawn in, like you’re seeing every layer of Jolene. Ingram has this natural ability to make you care about her characters, even when they’re not front and center.
But in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Reva’s character didn’t get the same thoughtful writing.
The story rushed through key points in her arc, leaving less room for Ingram to bring out those layered, complex moments that made Jolene so memorable.
Watching Reva, you get glimpses of Ingram’s talent, but it’s like she’s working with one hand tied behind her back.
For those of us who’ve seen her in The Queen’s Gambit, it’s hard not to wonder what she could’ve done with Reva if the writing had given her more to work with.
