8 Real-Life Family Members Who’ve Appeared in Star Wars
We’ve seen how Star Wars loves to explore the theme of family — fathers and sons, masters and apprentices, the light and dark side all connected through bloodlines.
But what’s really fun is that this theme isn’t just part of the story — it’s true behind the scenes too.Over the years, several Star Wars actors have brought their own family members into the galaxy far, far away.
From Mark Hamill’s kids appearing as Resistance fighters to Carrie Fisher’s daughter stepping into Leia’s legacy, and even George Lucas’s children showing up in the prequels — the Force really does run in the family.
1. George Lucas & Hid Children
Let’s start this with the man who created the whole Star Wars universe — George Lucas. Most fans already know the director made a small cameo in Revenge of the Sith, where he appeared as a blue-skinned Pantoran named Baron Notluwiski Papanoida. You can spot him in the opera scene, standing in the background as Anakin walks in to meet Chancellor Palpatine.
But what makes this even cooler is that Lucas wasn’t the only one from his family in the prequels — his kids were too! Jett, Katie, and Amanda Lucas all made appearances across the trilogy:
Jett Lucas, the most recognizable among them, played Zett Jukassa, a young Jedi Padawan who bravely defends the Jedi Temple during Revenge of the Sith. He’s the one we see fighting clone troopers before being tragically gunned down — a surprisingly emotional cameo once you know that’s George Lucas’s real son.
Katie Lucas, meanwhile, appeared as Chi Eekway, one of the purple-skinned Twi’lek senators seen in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. She even went on to write multiple episodes of The Clone Wars, so her connection runs deep.
2. Mark Hamill & His Kids
If Lucas’s family made the cut, you know the Hamills had to follow. All three of Mark Hamill’s children — Nathan, Griffin, and Chelsea — appeared in The Last Jedi. You’ll spot them as Resistance fighters during the Battle of Crait. It’s a subtle cameo (no big lines), but pretty powerful when you realize Luke’s on-screen children are his real children.
3. Carrie Fisher & Billie Lourd
This is one of the more emotional connections. Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, is a major cast member in the sequel trilogy, playing Lieutenant Connix. But it doesn’t end there: in The Rise of Skywalker, the flashback scene showing young Leia training with Jedi include a brief moment where Billie steps in as young Leia. The legacy is literal here.
4. Ewan McGregor, Denis Lawson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Esther-Rose McGregor
Star Wars lets us live out dreams across generations. Denis Lawson—Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy—is actually Ewan McGregor’s uncle. Decades later, Ewan returns as Obi-Wan Kenobi in his own series, and his daughter Esther-Rose McGregor pops up there as Tetha Grig. Rounding it out, Ewan’s wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead joins the galaxy in Ahsoka as General Hera Syndulla.
5. Warwick & Harrison Davis
In The Rise of Skywalker, Warwick Davis returned as Wicket the Ewok — but he wasn’t alone. His real-life son, Harrison Davis, played Wicket’s son, Pommet. It’s a sweet little touch: in a film all about lineage and legacy, father and son share a screen as members of the same creature species.
6. Billy Dee Williams & Corey Dee Williams
We’re all familiar with Billy Dee Williams as the smooth-talking Lando Calrissian, but did you know his son, Corey Dee Williams, was also part of Return of the Jedi? Corey worked behind the scenes as his father’s stunt double, and he even suited up as Klaatu, one of the guards on Jabba’s sail barge.
7. Lars & Mads Mikkelsen
You might not realize it at first, but Grand Admiral Thrawn from Ahsoka and Galen Erso from Rogue One are actually played by brothers. Lars Mikkelsen brings Thrawn’s calm, calculating presence to life in live action, while Mads Mikkelsen gave us the tragic brilliance of Galen, the man behind the Death Star’s secret flaw. Two brothers — both shaping the fate of the galaxy, just on opposite sides of it.
8. Ron & Bryce Dallas Howard
Not quite “on-screen family” but worth noting: Ron Howard directed Solo: A Star Wars Story. His daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, has directed multiple episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The storytelling gene runs in the Howard family — even if they don’t act together, they shape the saga’s future.
