Before Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, George Lucas had his own ideas for how the Star Wars saga would continue beyond Return of the Jedi.
While much of Lucas’s vision has been kept under wraps, certain details have emerged over the years, particularly regarding the role of Darth Talon, a character from the Star Wars: Legacy comic series.
Let’s find out how George Lucas plans for the Star Wars Sequel!
The Role of Darth Talon in Lucas’s Sequel Trilogy
When Disney took over Lucasfilm, the company decided to move in a different direction for the sequel trilogy, resulting in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.
The storylines in these films focused on characters like Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke, and the return of Emperor Palpatine, rather than introducing new Sith characters from the Expanded Universe.
In Lucas’s early drafts, Darth Talon was to be a primary villain who would train a new Sith apprentice and work to destabilize the galaxy.
This role would have given Talon a central position in the narrative, likely leading a new Sith order or dark side cult.
Her presence would have introduced a fresh dynamic to the sequel trilogy, blending elements of the old Sith traditions with new, unexplored dark side lore.
One of the more intriguing aspects of Lucas’s plan involved Darth Talon potentially seducing or influencing one of the Skywalker family members or another central character, mirroring the dark seductions seen in the prequel trilogy with Anakin Skywalker.
As revealed in the book Star Wars Archives: Episode I-III The Prequels, Lucas had plans for a very different sequel trilogy, with both Darth Talon and Darth Maul playing pivotal roles.
Lucas stated that Maul’s trajectory would have been significantly altered had he retained creative control over Star Wars.
Instead of struggling on the fringes, seeking revenge against his enemies, Maul was supposed to rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld, eventually becoming a powerful figure in the galaxy.
“Maul eventually becomes the godfather of crime in the universe because as the Empire fails, he takes over,” Lucas explained.
In this vision, Maul would have been the main villain, with Leia leading the New Republic in a struggle to take him and his criminal empire down.
