In a rare behind-the-scenes clip from the 1977 production of Star Wars: A New Hope, we get a delightful glimpse into the playful dynamics between Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill on the set of the Millennium Falcon.
The scene unfolds during the iconic moment when the Millennium Falcon is being pursued by Imperial TIE fighters after escaping from the Death Star.
If you recognize the scene, it’s the one where Han says, “It’ll take a few moments to get the coordinates from the navi-computer,” and Luke replies, “Are you kidding? At the rate they’re gaining…”
In the behind-the-scenes take, instead of delivering his famous line, “Traveling through hyperspace isn’t like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations, we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that’d end your trip real quick, wouldn’t it?”, Harrison Ford seems to forget what he’s supposed to say. Instead, he improvises with, “Ahhh, you know what is it.”
Mark Hamill bursts into laughter but stays in character, pointing his finger and asking, “What is that?” Ford then playfully slaps Hamill’s hand, adding to the fun of the moment.
