How Luke Performs His First Jedi Mind Trick

How Luke Performs His First Jedi Mind Trick

Luke reaches a point in his journey where he wants to grow in ways he never had the chance to before. He knows he needs something deeper than the skills he already has, and he starts looking for a place where the Jedi left their knowledge. His first successful mind trick comes out of that search, and the comic Star Wars (2020) #19 shows the whole process in a way that says a lot about where he stands at this moment.

Luke’s Search And The Weight On His Mind

(CANON) Star Wars #19 | DANGEROUS TURN | Star Wars Comics [2021]

Things start with Luke drifting during a Rebel briefing. Leia notices right away, and he admits he doesn’t feel ready to face Vader again. He knows he has to complete his training, and he tells Leia he needs more time. After that, he checks R2-D2’s list of possible Jedi temple sites. The list is old Imperial data, but he wants any trace of the Jedi legacy he can find.

From here, I follow him across several planets. He reaches Ilum and senses the damage the Empire caused. He slips past Imperial blockades. He travels to Arashar and Lothal, reaches the abandoned River Moon of Al’doleem, and then arrives at Mount Pasvaal, where he feels the Force in a quiet, distant way. This mountain becomes the first place that gives him a real lead.

Luke keeps searching because he wants something that can help him strengthen his connection to the Force.

The Failed Attempt And A New Guide

When he approaches the facility at Mount Pasvaal, he walks up to two stormtroopers and tries the move he saw from Ben Kenobi and Yoda. He focuses and speaks, but they instantly raise their blasters and warn him:

“Not another step. This is a secure facility.”

The moment feels heavy because Luke wants to grow, but his mind trick doesn’t land at all. Before he causes a scene, someone calls out from the side and tells him to get inside before the Empire notices his lightsaber.

The man introduces himself as Colli. He explains that he once met the Jedi Kirak Infil’a, who saved his life from Darth Vader. Colli shares how the Empire explored Mount Pasvaal for decades and stored what they found in a nearby warehouse before shipping everything off-world. He says the mountain is hollow and full of ancient passages and temples.

Luke tells him that he is looking for any piece of the Jedi legacy. Colli gives him the information he needs to move forward inside the mountain.

Luke Centers Himself Before Trying Again

Before heading toward the warehouse, Luke stops and takes time to settle his mind. One of the panels shows him sitting on a rocky ledge while his lightsaber rests beside him. He then hands it to R2-D2 and says:

“Keep this safe for me, Artoo.”

Luke starts walking toward the warehouse, focused and steadier than before. This is where I feel the shift in his approach. He isn’t rushing. He isn’t forcing anything. He moves with a clearer mind.

Luke calms himself and prepares for the moment he wants to reach.

The First Real Jedi Mind Trick

When he reaches the stormtroopers guarding the warehouse, he speaks with a calm voice:

“You will bring me the most important artifact you have stored here.”

This time, the troopers repeat his words back:

“We will bring you the most important artifact we have stored here.”

They walk off and return with a Jedi holocron. It glows in his hand, and he activates it by reaching out through the Force, just like he once saw others do.

The holocron lights up and forms the hologram of Yoda. The recording speaks:

“Hello, Jedi. My name… is Grand Master Yoda of the Jedi Council. Many things do I have to teach you. Listen… and learn, you will.”

The issue ends here, with Luke standing in front of Yoda’s image, holding the most valuable artifact in the warehouse.
