If you watched The Clone Wars, you probably remember Embo, the quiet bounty hunter with the wide hat that he somehow uses as both a shield and a weapon. He was one of the most memorable bounty hunters in the series.
Then the new Mandalorian and Grogu trailer brought Embo back into the conversation, and a lot of fans instantly had the same reaction: wait, how old is this guy supposed to be now?
Embo Goes All the Way Back to The Clone Wars
Embo actually first showed up in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, long before the New Republic era this movie is set in.
His first appearance was in the Season 2 episode “Bounty Hunters,” where he arrived on Felucia as part of a small team of hired guns protecting a group of farmers from pirates led by Hondo Ohnaka. Even in that first episode, Embo immediately stood out. He barely spoke, but the way he fought, using that wide hat as both a shield and a weapon, made him one of the most unique bounty hunters in the show.
And that appearance wasn’t just a one-off. Embo kept showing up throughout The Clone Wars, working alongside other bounty hunters like Sugi and Latts Razzi, and building a reputation as one of the most skilled fighters in the underworld during the final years of the Republic.
The important detail here is when all of this happens.
The Clone Wars takes place roughly between 22 BBY and 19 BBY, right before the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. That means Embo was already an active bounty hunter more than 30 years before the era of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Embo’s Age Starts Making More Sense Once You Know His Species
One important detail here is Embo’s species. He isn’t human, he’s a Kyuzo, a warrior species known for their speed, agility, and toughness.
Kyuzo are known as fast, tough, highly skilled warriors, but they also seem to live longer than humans. In fact, Star Wars has at least one example of a Kyuzo living to 166 years old, even though the species’ average or maximum lifespan still hasn’t been clearly defined
We actually get a closer look at the Kyuzo homeworld in The Clone Wars episode “Bounty,” where Obi-Wan briefly travels to the planet Kyuzo while tracking down a bounty hunter. The episode shows that Kyuzo culture revolves heavily around combat training and warrior traditions, which helps explain why fighters like Embo are so dangerous.
But when it comes to lifespan, Star Wars has never given an exact number for how long Kyuzo can live. What we do know is that they’re portrayed as extremely resilient and physically durable.
So when you combine that with the timeline gap, more than 30 years between The Clone Wars and the era of The Mandalorian and Grogu, it suddenly doesn’t feel that strange that Embo could still be active as a bounty hunter.
He’s older, sure. But for someone from a warrior species like the Kyuzo, it’s completely believable that he’d still be out there taking jobs.
