We often see Darth Vader use his Force choke on Imperial officers, whether they are standing right in front of him or communicating with him from afar.
However, what might make us pause is how exactly Darth Vader can choke someone from millions of miles away, or even through a monitor screen.
How does Vader achieve this remarkable feat?
I believe I’ve found the answer.
A compelling theory suggests that Vader’s ability to choke someone from a distance is closely linked to his visual connection with the target.
As long as Vader can see his target—whether through a screen or in person—he can focus his dark side powers to exert his will.
This visual connection acts as a bridge, enabling him to project his telekinetic abilities across vast distances.
It’s as if the Force flows through this connection, allowing Vader to manipulate his target despite the vast space between them physically.
This theory is further supported by a similar scene in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
In Episode 10 of Season 6, we see Emperor Palpatine and Count Dooku conversing via hologram.
During this conversation, Palpatine Force chokes Dooku from halfway across the galaxy, reinforcing the idea that a visual connection can facilitate such a powerful act.
These moments illustrate how the dark side of the Force is not limited by distance, but rather by the user’s ability to focus their will.
The visual connection strengthens this focus, allowing powerful Sith Lords like Vader and Palpatine to assert their dominance over others, no matter how far away they might be.
