I Just Noticed That in the Tales of the Underworld Trailer Cad Bane’s Breathing Tubes Are Gone, Anyone Have Any Theories Why?

You’ve probably already heard about the upcoming Star Wars anthology series, Tales of the Underworld—the newest addition following Tales of the Jedi and Tales of the Empire. This time, we’re shifting focus to the galaxy’s seediest corners, diving into the lives of bounty hunters, smugglers, and criminals who operate in the shadows.

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, no worries—I’ll drop the video down below so you can check it out before we dive into one curious detail that’s got a lot of fans talking.

However, here’s the catch—and I bet a lot of fans noticed the same thing after watching the trailer. While it’s pretty clear the series will focus on bounty hunters like Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane, something’s definitely off about Bane’s appearance. If you’ve been following him since The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, you’ll know exactly what’s missing: his breathing tubes.

These tubes have always been a signature part of Cad Bane’s design—not just for style, but for function. They’re there to prevent Jedi from Force-choking him by cutting off his airflow. So seeing him without them? That’s a big detail to overlook, and it has fans (myself included) wondering: what happened?

So far, we can only guess what exactly happened based on the trailer. One possible explanation is that Cad Bane’s tubes are missing because we’re seeing a flashback—likely a younger version of him before he had them installed. If the episode takes place early in his bounty hunting career, it would make sense that he hadn’t upgraded his gear yet. And since the animation style doesn’t always make timelines clear, this could very well be set before the events of The Clone Wars.

To help visualize the difference between a younger Cad Bane and the version we see in The Bad Batch, take a look at the image below. It gives a clearer picture of how his design has evolved.

But that’s not the only thing fans have noticed missing. If you remember, Cad Bane usually isn’t alone—he’s often accompanied by his trusty little techno-service droid, Todo 360. The two have been inseparable in shows like The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, with Todo often assisting Bane in tight situations (and complaining the whole time).

Yet in the Tales of the Underworld trailer, Todo is nowhere to be seen. Whether this means the episode takes place before they teamed up, or something happened to the droid off-screen, it’s another mystery worth keeping an eye on.

But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Cad Bane without his sidekick droid—The Book of Boba Fett didn’t feature Todo 360 either. So it might just be another case of him being left out or simply forgotten.
