In The Last Jedi, Luke Still Bears the Blaster Shot He Received to His Robotic Hand in Return of the Jedi

In The Last Jedi, it’s the small details that really stick with me, and Luke Skywalker’s robotic hand is a prime example.

If you remember Return of the Jedi, his hand took a blaster shot during the fight on Jabba’s sail barge. Decades later, that same hand makes a quiet but meaningful appearance in The Last Jedi.

I’ve found the exact moments for you to revisit, complete with some videos to help jog your memory.

Without further ado.

The Blaster Shot in Return of the Jedi

In Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker’s battle on Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge is one of the film’s most thrilling moments.

Armed with his green lightsaber and a plan to save his friends, Luke takes on Jabba’s guards in an action-packed fight. During the chaos, a blaster bolt from one of the henchmen strikes Luke’s robotic right hand.

Sparks fly as the glove covering his hand is torn apart, briefly exposing the mechanical components beneath.

It’s a quick but striking moment, showing the vulnerability of Luke’s prosthetic and hinting at the toll these battles take on him.

Despite the damage, Luke doesn’t miss a beat, continuing to fight and eventually defeating Jabba’s forces.

The State of Luke’s Robotic Hand in The Last Jedi

Decades later, in The Last Jedi, we catch a quiet glimpse of how Luke’s past battles have stayed with him.

On Ahch-To, as Rey hands Luke Anakin’s lightsaber, we get a clear view of his robotic hand, uncovered and exposed.

The damage from the blaster shot during the fight on Jabba’s sail barge is still visible.

But this time, his hand looks a little different. Unlike in Return of the Jedi, where the mechanical parts were still covered with synthetic skin, here, the skin is completely gone.

The metal frame of his hand shows signs of wear and tear, with scorch marks and aged mechanical components that seem untouched since the incident.

But if you look closely, you’ll spot the very same damage from the blaster shot that Luke took during the battle on Jabba’s Sail Barge.
