Fun Facts About Poe Dameron’s Black One X-Wing

1. The Black One X-Wing Is Now at the Smithsonian

According to airandspace.si.edu, Poe Dameron’s full-size black-and-orange T-70 X-Wing from The Rise of Skywalker became part of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum collection in 2022. And yes—it’s the real deal, screen-used in the actual movie.

Before it was placed on display, the X-Wing underwent careful restoration by Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic. It was shipped in multiple pieces and assembled inside the newly renovated Boeing Milestones of Flight Hall, right alongside historic aircraft and space vehicles.

This marks one of the first times a Star Wars vehicle has ever been exhibited at the Smithsonian—making Poe Dameron’s Black One not just a Resistance starfighter, but officially a piece of pop culture and museum history.

2. Black One Is the Fastest X-Wing

Official sources from StarWars.com note that Poe Dameron’s customized T-70 X-wing, known as Black One, was engineered for exceptional speed and precision. While a standard T-65B X-wing used by the Rebel Alliance could reach a maximum atmospheric speed of roughly 1,050 km/h, the T-70 improved on that performance with better engines and flight systems. Black One pushed things even further, thanks to its experimental thrust accelerator pod—giving it unmatched agility and speed in combat.

This high-performance configuration came into full display during the Resistance’s assault on a First Order Dreadnought. Poe’s solo run wasn’t just about guts—it showed how far Black One could go when piloted at its limit, earning its place as the fastest X-wing in the fleet.
