Is the Yoda Species Naturally Gifted With the Force? If So, Could Grogu Become at the Level of Yoda? At Such a Young Age He’s Already Clearly Pretty Skilled

This is something I’ve been thinking about more and more, especially after watching Grogu casually tame a rancor or flip around like a pro while barely saying a word. For a toddler who can’t even form full sentences, he’s already showing serious Force potential.

And that got me wondering—what if Grogu’s talent isn’t just about his Jedi training? What if it’s in his DNA?

When you look at the track record, there’s actually something really interesting: every known member of Yoda’s species in both canon and Legends has been a Force-sensitive Jedi. We’re talking about characters like Yoda and Yaddle.

That’s not a coincidence. It strongly suggests that Yoda’s species is naturally gifted with the Force—almost like the midi-chlorians run stronger in their kind than most others.

All Known Members of Yoda’s Species in Legends Were Jedi

If we look beyond canon and into the Legends timeline, the pattern becomes even clearer. Every single member of Yoda’s mysterious species that we’ve seen in Legends is Force-sensitive, and not just sensitive — they’re full Jedi Masters with serious power and wisdom.

In case you haven’t heard of them before, I’ve got a quick rundown below showing just how strong they really are. Long story short? Yeah, Yoda’s species is absolutely gifted with the Force.

Vandar Tokare – Defeated Malak’s Dark Side Invasion of Dantooine

Vandar Tokare was the wise and soft-spoken Jedi Council member on Dantooine during Knights of the Old Republic. While he may have seemed like the quiet type, he wasn’t just a background figure. When Darth Malak launched a devastating Sith attack on the Jedi Enclave, Vandar was one of the few Jedi Masters who survived the destruction. Surviving that kind of onslaught already proves his strength, but what really stands out is that he later led a Jedi assault on the Star Forge itself, the heart of Malak’s dark side empire. Not only did Vandar survive again, he helped destroy the Sith superweapon

Oteg – Led the Republic’s Offensive Against the Sith Empire

In Star Wars: The Old Republic, Oteg was more than just a Jedi Master—he was a general in the Republic military and oversaw large-scale battles. The biggest proof of his strength comes when he commanded the assault to rescue Revan from the Maelstrom Prison, a heavily fortified Sith space station. Oteg coordinated the fleet, led the Jedi strike force, and personally oversaw the mission that freed one of the most legendary Jedi of all time. He wasn’t just a figurehead—Oteg was trusted to lead a campaign against a fortress powered by Sith alchemy and dark side energy. That says everything about the level of power and respect he held.

Minch – Killed a Powerful Dark Jedi Solo

Minch shows up in the comic Star Wars Tales #16, in a story called ‘Heart of Darkness’, in a story set 700 years before the prequel era. He was sent with a Jedi team to hunt down a group of Dark Jedi, but Minch got impatient and decided to go after one of them alone. What happened next is the big moment: Minch tracked the Dark Jedi into a cave and, despite being outmatched in size and experience, managed to kill him in one-on-one combat. This wasn’t just a brute win either—Minch used skill, instinct, and a deep connection to the Force to succeed.

Some fans originally believed Minch was an early version of Yoda himself, but even if he’s a different character, this moment shows again how ridiculously strong this species tends to be.

So Could Grogu Ever Reach Yoda’s Level?

Throughout The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, there’s no doubt Grogu is strong in the Force. We’ve seen what he can do, from calming a rancor to shielding Din with the Force. But to answer the question — could Grogu ever reach Yoda’s level? Honestly, no. And that’s because Grogu chose the path of the Mandalorian instead of fully committing to the Jedi.

Don’t get me wrong, Grogu absolutely has the potential. He could’ve reached that level if he stayed with Luke and continued his training. But since he walked away from that path, his power might never fully develop. He’ll probably still live as long as Yoda, but his Force abilities might plateau at a certain point — like levitating objects, calming creatures, or using the Force to protect himself and Din.

We know how powerful Yoda was in his prime — just look at the Prequels. The guy was casually blocking Force lightning and swinging his lightsaber with insane speed. That kind of power? “Not something you’re gonna learn” from a Mandalorian.
