Leslye Headland Reveals Why the Twins Aren’t as Powerful as Anakin

Star Wars: The Acolyte Season 2 has been officially canceled after a disappointing first season that left many questions unanswered and nearly disrupted the established Star Wars canon.

Controversial moments, such as the fire scene in space, and the introduction of the Brendok witch creating Osha and Mae through the Force, didn’t sit well with fans.

This event particularly clashed with the established lore, which states that Anakin Skywalker is the only one created by the Force as the Chosen One.

Let’s hear what The Acolyte’s showrunner, Leslye Headland, has to say about the twins.

In an interview with Gizmodo, Leslye Headland said “This was very important to me, Dave Filoni, and to Pablo Hidalgo, that Osha and Mae are not a vergence. The girls themselves are not a vergence in the Force.”

Headland recently explained as part of a wide-ranging interview with Nerdist.

However they got here … the act of creating them was going to need amplification, therefore, we came around to the decision that the vergence was on Brendok, and that it would remain mysterious. So that way, if we went back there in future tellings of the story, we could uncover a little bit more about what is actually there. It was important that this type of vergence was a natural one as opposed to within a human being or an alien

Headland’s perspective on the distinction between Osha and Mae’s creation and Anakin’s origin sparked a broader discussion earlier in the season of The Acolyte.

In the third episode, another flashback to Brendok hinted at the nature of Osha and Mae’s conception, drawing parallels to how Anakin was brought into existence as part of the Jedi Chosen One prophecy.

Headland explained that the twins were essentially test subjects—’guinea pigs’—for a new kind of power that didn’t work perfectly. As a result, Osha and Mae, even together, could never reach the level of power that Anakin possessed.

According to Headland, the twins’ full potential has not been fully explored because they’ve been separated for too long. This was one of the earliest attempts at harnessing this particular force, and while they aren’t the first experiment, they represent an early trial of this power.

Headland further elaborated that the twins are undoubtedly weaker than Anakin and will never attain what the Chosen One ultimately represents.

In my view,” Headland said, “Aniseya didn’t have the strength to create a single, powerful being like Anakin. The twins’ creation split her power, and thus, her philosophy centers around the necessity of them staying together.

The twins’ bond is crucial, but their power pales in comparison to Anakin’s singular might.
