Other Than the Grand Army of the Republic, Who or What Else Did the Kaminoans Clone?

Other Than the Grand Army of the Republic, Who or What Else Did the Kaminoans Clone?

In the prequels, the Kaminoans focused on cloning the Grand Army of the Republic. That was their pinnacle cloning achievement. Yet, did they clone anyone or anything else? Yes, we have five main items to think about that reflect extended Kaminoan cloning.

1. Themselves

Long before they cloned the Grand Army, the Kaminoans cloned themselves. They did so to survive the “Great Flood” that occurred on Kamino at the end of an ice age. The Kaminoans practiced a mix of “selective breeding, genetics, and cloning” to sustain their species. As lead scientist, Ko Sai said, “We are the masters of genetics,” a quality they would draw on to build the main army.

A fan response here offers insight into how the Kaminoans turned to cloning not just to survive, but also “to perfect their species,” and recommends the Republic Commando novels to find out more about Kamino and the Kaminoans cloning themselves.

Other fans comment on how their cloning practices were not really about mass reproduction since they wouldn’t have evolved, and that they followed eugenics by “allowing those with the best genetics to breed.” The Kaminoans sought to rebuild a presumed master species of sorts.

2. Animals

As cloning experts, the Kaminoans provided several services, including cloning animals for clients. The above Reddit discussion references how Darth Plagueis had the Kaminoans clone animals for hunting.

Under the alias Hego Damask, Plagueis contracted the Kaminoans to create game animals for hunts on the planet Sojourn or the Hunters’ Moon. Fans also discuss this type of cloning here and reference the Darth Plagueis novel as a source to read more about it. Kaminoans could be thought of as providers of cloning services to elite clientele.

3. Workers

Before the Grand Army, the Kaminoans were also known for cloning workers. This video comments on both the “rare creatures” they created for hunting and the mine workers who provided labor for hard, dangerous jobs. Both activities boosted their expertise in the field and earned them a reputation as skilled cloners.

Palpatine REVEALS The Dark Truth Behind Clones of Kamino

Fan responses here indicate how the Kaminoans provided “a select client base with workers,” including “private security forces.” Cloned workers were sent off to do hard labor and used in Kaminoan society.

4. Other Smaller Armies

We recognize the Grand Army as the Kaminoans’ top achievement. Yet, they cloned other smaller armies beforehand. As posted here, one key reference to these other armies comes in the exchange between Obi-Wan and the minister in Attack of the Clones.

When Obi-Wan surprisingly asked about an army being created, the Kaminoan Prime Minister replied, “Yes, a clone army; and I must say, one of the finest we’ve ever created.” We can infer from his remarks that they built other armies before the Grand one.

5. Boba Fett and Stormtroopers

We probably know about Boba Fett already, but he is part of the extended Kaminoan cloning. Not only did the Kaminoans use Jango Fett’s “genetic structure” for the clone army, they also created “an unmodified clone” for Jango to raise as a son. Unlike the other clones, Boba was not “docile” and reflected a unique cloning project.

A bonus clone item, which we may also know of, is that Kaminoans cloned stormtroopers too. As the Emperor transitioned away from clone troopers, he determined that “new clone stormtroopers would be created from various templates.” The Kaminoans continued as one of the sources of these clone stormtroopers, along with Spaarti cloning cylinders and the GeNode program

Not a Zillo Beast

In Episode 11, Season 2 of The Bad Batch, viewers saw a Zillo Beast that we may think the Kaminoans cloned. During the Clone Wars, Palpatine had ordered this cloning project, and this beast could have been the result of their work. However, the Zillo Beast was actually cloned by the Empire on the forest planet of Wayland.
