The Final Flight of ANA’s Star Wars C-3PO B777

Tokyo, January 10, 2026 — All Nippon Airways’ (ANA) iconic Star Wars C-3PO Boeing 777-200ER has completed its final flight, marking the end of a dazzling chapter in aviation history. The aircraft, registered JA743A, operated flight NH270 from Fukuoka to Tokyo Haneda on January 9, closing the curtain on nearly nine years of cinematic magic in the skies.

The C-3PO ANA Jet first took to the skies on March 21, 2017, as part of ANA’s ambitious Star Wars Project, a collaboration with Lucasfilm that brought beloved characters to life on the airline’s fleet. Painted in bright yellow and emblazoned with the likeness of the golden droid, the aircraft quickly became a favorite among aviation enthusiasts and Star Wars fans alike. It joined other themed jets, including the R2-D2 Dreamliner and the BB-8 Boeing 777, each offering passengers a unique blend of pop culture and travel.

The farewell journey was a fitting finale. Flight NH270 departed Fukuoka at 19:55 JST and touched down at Tokyo Haneda at 21:30 JST. On its last day of service, the aircraft operated several domestic routes, giving fans one final chance to experience the Star Wars-themed journey.

ANA’s Star Wars Project began in 2015, designed to celebrate the global phenomenon while showcasing Japan’s creativity in aviation. Beyond the striking exterior designs, the themed jets offered immersive cabin experiences, including character-inspired headrest covers, in-flight announcements, and exclusive merchandise. For passengers, routine flights were transformed into journeys through a galaxy far, far away, blurring the line between travel and entertainment.

The retirement of the C-3PO Jet is part of ANA’s broader fleet modernization strategy. The airline is phasing out older Boeing 777-200ERs in favor of more fuel-efficient aircraft such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380. At the same time, the Star Wars collaboration itself is drawing to a close, with the project officially ending on March 31, 2026. For fans, the conclusion marks the end of a decade-long partnership that delighted millions and set a benchmark for airline branding collaborations.
