We’ve seen Jedi from almost every species in Star Wars, but Ewoks? That’s where it gets interesting. In Legends-era material, there’s actually an image of an Ewok shown as a Jedi, complete with robes and a lightsaber. And as far as I can find, it’s the only time Star Wars has ever pictured an Ewok going that far.
Star Wars Does Have Force-Sensitive Ewoks
In the RPG sourcebook Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds, there’s a piece of art that straight-up shows an Ewok as a Jedi. The character isn’t named, but it’s clearly an Ewok in Jedi robes holding a blue lightsaber, shown fighting Sanyassan marauders who have taken another Ewok captive. The timing is set after Endor, in the years following the original trilogy.
And those Sanyassans aren’t some random one-off enemy either. Endor stories have used them as a long-term threat, especially in the old Ewok-era material. So even if this Ewok Jedi never appears in a movie, the idea isn’t out of place: Endor still had enemies, and one source imagined an Ewok who answered that threat with a lightsaber.
However, we don’t have any explanation about this Ewok Jedi and it just show up with a image without any context.
The Possible Backstory of This Ewok Jedi
So we don’t have any real confirmation about this Ewok Jedi as a fully developed character, but we can still make a reasonable guess at what his backstory could look like.
Ewoks first enter the saga at the end of Return of the Jedi, and we know they helped the Rebels fight the Empire on Endor. After the battle, Luke stays on Endor long enough to celebrate with everyone, and it’s not hard to imagine him paying attention to the locals in a different way than the Rebel soldiers did. Luke is a Jedi, and he can sense the Force in people. If there really was an Ewok with unusual sensitivity, Luke would be the one person there who might notice it.
After Endor, Luke isn’t just a war hero anymore, he’s the one trying to rebuild the Jedi path from scratch. He doesn’t have a temple full of teachers. He doesn’t have the old Jedi Council. So it makes sense that he would be open-minded about who can be trained, especially if they show real potential.
So in a possible backstory, Luke discovers a Force-sensitive Ewok sometime after the battle, takes an interest, and begins teaching them the basics, control, focus, and what the Force actually is. Not as a full “Jedi Academy” student at first, but as a small, personal training situation.
The lightsaber part also fits the same idea. If Luke is training someone seriously, eventually that leads to building a saber. And in that RPG illustration, the Ewok is shown with a blue blade and Jedi-style robes, which suggests this wasn’t just “Ewok magic.” It was meant to be a real Jedi path.
