There’s a Star Wars Horror Project Happening & ‘Andor’ Creator Tony Gilroy Just Confirmed It

So, it turns out Star Wars might finally be going full horror. Tony Gilroy, the creator of Andor, just confirmed that Lucasfilm and Disney are working on a horror project set in the galaxy far, far away.

No one knows if it’s a movie or a series yet, but it’s real enough that fans have started throwing out ideas left and right. And honestly? Some of them sound way better than you’d expect.

Tony Gilroy Confirms a Star Wars Horror Project Is in the Works

It’s not a rumor anymore – Andor creator Tony Gilroy has confirmed that Disney is working on a horror project set in the Star Wars universe. While speaking with Business Insider at the Season 2 red carpet event for Andor, Gilroy casually dropped the bombshell:

“They’re doing that. I think they’re doing that. I think that’s in the works, yeah.”

Though he didn’t reveal whether it’s a movie or a show, the fact that someone as involved as Gilroy is acknowledging it suggests this isn’t just fan speculation. When he previously joked to SFX Magazine about doing “a three-camera comedy or a horror movie” in the Star Wars universe, it was brushed off as casual riffing. But now, things are sounding more serious.

Gilroy clarified that he wasn’t pushing a specific direction, saying,

“I’m agnostic about what should be done… Sometimes riffing doesn’t work with the Star Wars community.”

Still, his comments hit at the right moment. Andor itself is proof that Star Wars can explore serious, grounded genres without lightsabers or Jedi. Season 1 was a gritty political thriller, and it worked – earning a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and drawing praise for its tone and storytelling. The franchise is no stranger to reinvention, and now horror might be its next big leap.

What We Might See – Fan Theories and Horror Scenarios

With the idea of Star Wars horror now on the table, fans have been quick to share their own hopes – and some of these scenarios feel like they’re ready to be made.

One popular pick is a live-action version of Ewok Hunt. If you’ve played that Battlefront II mode, you know how creepy it gets when stormtroopers try to survive a night ambush in a dark forest. The setting, the silence, the glowing eyes – people compared it to Dead by Daylight and even said it left a lasting, uneasy feeling. Turning that into a short horror film or miniseries would be a perfect entry point.

Then there’s the Death Troopers route. The original novel introduced zombie stormtroopers and a spreading virus on a drifting Imperial prison ship. Its prequel, Red Harvest, went deeper into the Sith origins of the infection. These books showed that Star Wars and horror can work together – and many fans want to see them adapted on screen. Some are even calling for a full trilogy.

Others are thinking bigger: entire planets filled with danger. Dathomir is at the top of the list. One suggestion described a story where a group of crash survivors faces hostile terrain, deadly creatures, and a lurking Force witch hunting them down. It’s got strong survival-horror potential, especially if they play it like a week-long nightmare before rescue.

Another idea brings the horror underground – literally. Fans are imagining stories set in the forgotten levels of Coruscant. Between Sith shrines, hidden labs, and old secrets buried in the city’s lower depths, there’s room for a claustrophobic, psychological horror setup. And with concept art from past projects showing eerie ruins and dark temples, this could bring back the mythic, unknown side of Star Wars.

Darth Vader also made the wishlist. While some fans rolled their eyes at the idea of a “Vader slasher,” others pointed out how close we already are. That Rogue One hallway scene? Basically a horror short. A story where rebels are picked off one by one by a relentless Sith could easily push that idea further, even without going full R-rated.

Some even mentioned characters like Qimir or Darth Nihilus taking center stage – Sith Lords who bring more than just lightsaber battles, but deep, existential fear. A force that tears at your mind or soul, not just your body.

And if Disney wants to go full sci-fi horror, the Legends lore is packed with material: parasitic wraiths, cursed Force artifacts, ghost ships in hyperspace, and terrifying Sithspawn like Terentateks or Starweirds. Even planets like Malachor or Ziost carry that ancient, corrupted vibe that could anchor a slow-burn thriller.

Whether it ends up being a haunted planet, a zombie outbreak, or a Sith stalking the shadows, one thing’s clear: fans aren’t just open to the idea of Star Wars horror – they’re ready for it. Now it’s up to Lucasfilm to decide how far they want to go.
