What Do Yoda and Darth Plagueis’ Cameos Mean for the Future of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’?

What Do Yoda and Darth Plagueis’ Cameos Mean for the Future of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’?

The final episode of The Acolyte has finally aired on Disney+, leaving us with plenty of unanswered questions.

It seems we’ll have to wait for a potential second season to get the answers.

But let’s set aside the debate about season two for now. The real question on everyone’s mind is what the purpose of the cameos of Yoda and the legendary Sith Lord, Darth Plagueis, might be.

Let’s dive in

By the end of The Acolyte’s first season, Qimir and Osha are solidified as master and apprentice, seemingly free from the consequences of Master Sol’s mistake on Brendok and the investigation that followed 16 years later.

It appears like they’ll walk away together, free from the past. After all, Qimir isn’t truly a Sith; he only claimed the title because he rejected the teachings of the Jedi and their Order.

However, the story doesn’t end there.

Master Vernestra is still hunting her former Padawan, Qimir, and there’s an even bigger twist.

As Qimir and Osha disappear, we see the same cave they used to hide from the Jedi. Inside, a shadowy figure appears, looking unmistakably like Darth Plagueis.

This has left fans with burning questions. The cave where Osha and Qimir were last seen suggests they might be on the planet Bal’demnic

What’s Plagueis doing there? Could he be searching through their base, perhaps intending to recruit a new apprentice?

Or could he be seeking to eliminate dark side users who fall outside the Sith’s Rule of Two, protecting the Sith Order’s long-term plan that Sidious would finalize more than a century later?

It’s fascinating to consider that a hidden Sith Lord might be worried about rogue Force users exposing the Order’s secrets.

If Leslye Headland and her team succeed in bringing us a second season of The Acolyte, we could finally get answers to these lingering questions.

Yoda and The Jedi Council

One character we all know well is Jedi Master Yoda. He made a brief appearance in The Acolyte, though his role remains somewhat unclear.

We didn’t see the conversation between Vernestra Rwoh and Yoda, but it’s likely Vernestra, now scrambling to justify running off with Mae to hunt down her former apprentice, sought either to inform Yoda of something important or to seek his guidance.

Yoda’s exact role in The Acolyte is still a mystery. What we do know is that the first season is set during the High Republic era, a time of peace, prosperity, and significant advancements in exploration and technology.

The Galactic Republic was at the height of its power, expanding into the Outer Rim Territories and bringing stability to uncharted regions.

The Jedi Order, thriving during this period, played a key role in maintaining peace across the galaxy, with numerous Jedi Temples established on various planets.

Given this peaceful backdrop, we might not see much of Yoda in action.

Until a second season is officially announced, we’ll just have to wait and see how his character will unfold in the story.
