What Happened To Commander Cody After The Bad Batch?

Commander Cody showed up in The Bad Batch Season 2 and then – just like that – he was gone. No follow-up, no clue where he went, just one episode and radio silence. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and after going through everything we know, here’s the clearest picture I could put together.

He Walked Away from the Empire

Cody’s big moment came in “The Solitary Clone.” At first, he’s still working for the Empire, doing what he’s told. But something’s changed. He’s more careful, more thoughtful. When he sees the Empire break a peaceful surrender and execute someone who didn’t need to die, that’s the final straw.

The next time Crosshair asks where he is, he’s told Cody’s “gone AWOL.” That’s it. He’s out.

That decision says a lot. This is the same guy who fired on Obi-Wan during Order 66 without hesitation. But here, we see him actually thinking about what he’s doing. It’s clear he doesn’t want to be part of the Empire anymore.

He Was Supposed to Come Back in Kenobi

There’s something else that’s really interesting. Early versions of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show had Cody in them. He was going to show up on Tatooine, living alongside Obi-Wan, helping keep Luke safe. There were even a few lighthearted scenes planned to balance out the darker parts of the show.

In the end, they cut the subplot. They wanted Obi-Wan to be more isolated, and having Cody around would’ve changed the tone. Plus, there were concerns about having the same actor play both Cody and Boba Fett in different shows.

Still, that idea makes sense, especially with how Cody left things in The Bad Batch. He had to go somewhere – and this would’ve been a solid continuation.

Maybe He Just Wanted Peace

There’s a good chance Cody did what Cut Lawquane did – just left everything behind. After years of war, and seeing what the Empire was turning into, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he found a quiet planet and settled down.

That one episode showed a lot of regret in him. He didn’t want to be a soldier anymore. He didn’t want to be someone else’s weapon. And after all that he’d done, maybe living a quiet life was the only thing that made sense.

Don’t Expect Him to Join Rex (At Least Not Yet)

I’ve heard a lot of talk about Cody maybe teaming up with Rex, Gregor, and Wolffe – you know, the guys we see in Rebels. But so far, there’s no sign of Cody being with them. Rex doesn’t mention him, and we’ve never seen them together after the Clone Wars ended.

I guess if he ever did show up again, it could be in some future series, but right now, there’s no proof he’s part of that group. His path looks separate.

His Story Probably Isn’t Over

To me, the way The Bad Batch left things feels intentional. The writers have done this before – they leave characters out there with no ending, and then bring them back later when the time is right. It happened with Barriss, it happened with Ventress, and I could definitely see it happening with Cody.

They might be saving his story for something like a clone-focused show. Something that looks at what happens to guys like him after the war is over. Because he’s not the only one with loose ends.
