What if everything we thought we knew about Darth Vader wasn’t the full story?
We all see him as the Emperor’s right hand, the ruthless Jedi hunter, the ultimate Sith enforcer. But what if—somewhere deep down—he never completely let go of his past? What if, instead of just destroying the Jedi, he was secretly trying to rebuild them?
It’s a wild idea, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder—could Vader have pulled it off? Could he have trained Jedi in the shadows without the Emperor knowing? And if he did, what would that even look like?

A Secret Jedi Order as a Form of Redemption?
If there was anything left of Anakin Skywalker inside Darth Vader, it had to be his connection to the Jedi. No matter how much he tried to bury it, those memories didn’t just disappear.
I keep thinking—what if, deep down, Vader saw the Jedi as something worth preserving? Not in the way we’d expect, but in his own, twisted way. Maybe he wasn’t trying to wipe them out completely. Maybe, in some way, he was preparing for them to return.
That’s what makes Vader so interesting. He’s not just some Sith overlord bent on destruction—he’s a man caught between two identities. Sure, in A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, he’s fully committed to the dark side, but every now and then, you see something else. A hesitation. A glimpse of regret.
If Vader ever did try to rebuild the Jedi, it wouldn’t be some grand act of rebellion against Palpatine. It would be something quieter, something calculated. Maybe he believed the Jedi were still necessary. Or maybe, without even realizing it, he was trying to find his own way back to the light.
And if we look at The Force Unleashed, we can see how this idea isn’t entirely out of the question. Vader trained Starkiller as his secret apprentice, hiding him from the Emperor, using him to carry out his own agenda. What if he had a similar plan for the Jedi? What if, instead of wiping them all out, he was secretly training a new generation—one the Emperor would never see coming?
A New Kind of Jedi Order
Before we get into how Vader might have built his own Jedi, I want to talk about something I really like—the idea of Vader’s redemption and his return to the light side. One of the coolest concepts of this comes from Battlefront IV, where we see an alternate take on his story, imagining what it would look like if he turned back to the Jedi and wielded the light side of the Force again.
If Vader ever tried to rebuild the Jedi, there’s no way he’d bring back the same Order that turned against him in Revenge of the Sith. We know he saw their flaws firsthand—their rigid code, their rejection of attachment, their blind loyalty to the Republic. If he were to create a new Jedi Order, it wouldn’t look anything like the one he once served.
Maybe he’d allow attachment instead of forbidding it. We’ve seen how the old Jedi’s strict rules only drove him further toward the dark side. What if he saw this as a way to prevent others from suffering the same fate? A new philosophy that wouldn’t push its members to make impossible choices.
And what if he taught them to wield both the light and dark sides of the Force? Instead of following outdated Jedi traditions, this new Order could embrace balance, using their power freely instead of suppressing it.
We could also imagine him shaping his Jedi into warriors, not peacekeepers. The old Order fell because it was too focused on diplomacy and ideals. Vader’s Jedi would be different—trained for survival, built for war, and maybe even prepared to challenge the Emperor himself.
If Vader had ever created his own Jedi Order, it wouldn’t have been a return to the past. It would have been something entirely new—his own vision of what the Jedi should be.
Finding Allies in Unexpected Places
If Vader were to build his own Jedi Order, who would he recruit? Since he’d have to operate in the shadows, his options would be limited. But that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t exist.
We can imagine him reaching out to Force-sensitive individuals who wouldn’t draw too much attention—perhaps hidden Force-sensitive children or even former Jedi who survived Order 66 and went into hiding. These would be the kind of people who had nowhere else to turn, the ones who might be willing to follow a new path if given the chance.
But here’s where things get interesting—the Inquisitors. Palpatine created them by capturing young Jedi and breaking them down through brutal conditioning, forcing them into the role of Jedi hunters. They were meant to serve as tools of the Empire, and possibly even as Vader’s replacements if he ever failed.
But what if Vader saw another use for them?
We know he wasn’t fond of the Emperor’s control over him, and the Inquisitors were no different—they were just another part of Palpatine’s grip on the galaxy. If Vader wanted to create something outside of the Emperor’s influence, turning the Inquisitors to his side would be a powerful move.
Maybe he wouldn’t just manipulate them for his own gain. Maybe, deep down, he saw himself in them—the pain, the loss, the anger. Instead of treating them like expendable assassins, he could offer them a way out, a different future.
By freeing them from Palpatine’s control, he could rebuild them into something else—not Jedi as the old Order knew them, but something new. A force trained in both light and dark, built on resilience and redemption.
Hiding the New Jedi from Palpatine’s Watchful Eye
One of the biggest obstacles Vader would face is, of course, Palpatine himself. The Emperor is cunning and constantly watching for signs of betrayal.
For Vader to pull this off, he’d have to be incredibly careful.
We could imagine him using his position within the Empire to secretly fund and support this new Order, channeling resources from lesser-known Imperial projects and carefully concealing their purpose.
Vader would also need to keep his new Jedi activities deeply hidden, perhaps choosing remote or abandoned locations as training grounds. He might use Sith artifacts and locations he discovered during his own studies, twisting them to serve his new Jedi trainees while keeping everything under the radar.
The stakes are incredibly high—if Palpatine ever discovered this, it would likely result in an all-out confrontation between master and apprentice, with devastating consequences for the galaxy.
An Endgame Showdown – Vader vs. Palpatine
Ultimately, Vader’s secret Jedi Order would almost certainly lead to a final confrontation with Palpatine.
This showdown would be the culmination of Vader’s inner conflict, as he’s forced to choose between the Emperor’s power and his own legacy.
In this scenario, the new Jedi Order he’s created would stand as proof that he’s no longer just the Emperor’s enforcer—he’s a leader with his own vision for the galaxy.
Wth Palpatine furious at the betrayal and determined to crush this new Jedi Order. Vader would likely have to fight not just for his life, but for the survival of the Jedi he’s trained in secret.
It could be the ultimate redemption story: Vader, the fallen Jedi, risking everything to protect the Jedi Order he once helped destroy.
In the end, even if he didn’t survive the battle, he would have left a legacy of hope, reshaping the galaxy’s future with his own version of the Jedi Order.
