I love when Star Wars drops a new character that keeps fans guessing, and Pokkit is definitely one of them.
The second she showed up, I knew she wasn’t just another human bounty hunter – there’s something different about her.
But what species is she, and what does that tell us about her character? Let’s go through the strongest possibilities and see what makes the most sense.

All Signs Point to Umbaran
Pokkit’s appearance alone is a dead giveaway. White hair, white eyes, chalky skin? That’s textbook Umbaran, a near-human species first introduced in Attack of the Clones.
They showed up more in The Clone Wars, where we saw them as strategic, manipulative, and highly skilled – traits that fit Pokkit pretty well.
And let’s be real – Umbarans love playing mind games, staying in the shadows, and being just a little untrustworthy. Pokkit checking all those boxes? Yeah, she’s probably an Umbaran.
Umbarans Can Breathe Normally – The Helmets Were for Combat
Pokkit breathes just fine in Skeleton Crew, which might make some people question if she’s really Umbaran.
After all, in The Clone Wars, every Umbaran soldier we saw wore a sealed helmet. But here’s the thing – those helmets weren’t for breathing.
Umbaran soldiers wore specialized combat gear that pumped them full of stimulant gases to boost their reflexes and aggression.
It wasn’t that they couldn’t breathe their own air – it was that their suits kept them in a chemically enhanced state, making them deadlier fighters.
When a helmet was cracked, the sudden loss of those stimulants caused a severe physical crash, which is why they looked like they were suffocating.
Since Pokkit isn’t a soldier in a warzone, she has zero reason to use that kind of gear. Her breathing normally doesn’t rule out her being Umbaran – it actually makes perfect sense.
Okay, If She’s Not Umbaran, She’s Probably Kage
If, somehow, Pokkit isn’t Umbaran, then Kage is the next best guess.
Kage are another pale-skinned, near-human species from the planet Quarzite. They showed up in The Clone Wars too, and their warriors were known for speed, agility, and combat skills.
Some of them have dark markings around their eyes, which could match Pokkit’s look.
The problem? Kage are super rare in Star Wars media. They’ve barely been explored outside of one episode and a few mentions in books and comics.
Would Skeleton Crew bring in a deep-cut species like Kage when Umbarans are already well-established? Maybe, but it seems unlikely.
Why Other Theories Don’t Work
A few other species have been suggested, but none of them really fit:
- Echani: They have pale skin and white hair, but their facial features tend to be sharper, and they come from a warrior culture focused on unarmed combat, which isn’t Pokkit’s thing.
- Arkanian: Arkanians sometimes have white hair and pale skin, but they usually have pure white or silver eyes, and Pokkit’s look isn’t quite right for them.
- Rattataki: This one’s easy to debunk – Rattataki don’t have hair. Pokkit clearly does.
With those options ruled out, Umbaran still makes the most sense, with Kage as a distant second.
Fun Fact: A Unique Accent and a Legacy in Star Wars
One of the coolest things about Pokkit? Kelly Macdonald’s performance – and her accent. A lot of people loved hearing a Scottish accent in Star Wars, and honestly, it fits right in.
The franchise has a history of giving alien characters distinct and recognizable accents, just like how Twi’leks have their own unique dialects across different regions.
Even if Pokkit’s species isn’t confirmed yet, her voice alone made her stand out.
If she is an Umbaran, that would make her part of a species that has been in Star Wars since Attack of the Clones.
The first Umbaran we ever saw was Sly Moore, Emperor Palpatine’s silent, pale-skinned advisor.
But we didn’t get real insight into their culture until The Clone Wars, where Umbarans played a huge role in the battle against the 501st Legion.
If Pokkit is officially confirmed as Umbaran, she’d be one of the first modern live-action Umbarans with an actual speaking role – which is a pretty big deal.
