In Season 3 of The Mandalorian, I couldn’t help but notice Moff Gideon surrounded by an elite group of troopers.
Their imposing presence immediately made me wonder—who are they, and what makes them so formidable?
It’s something I’ve been thinking about ever since, and I know I’m not the only one asking these questions.
In this article, I’ll break down everything we know about these new troopers.
Imperial Armored Commando
The new troopers are called Imperial armored commandos. These elite forces made their debut in Chapter 23: The Spies, the penultimate episode of the third season of The Mandalorian.
Unlike standard stormtroopers, Imperial armored commandos are equipped with cutting-edge technology and weapons that make them a formidable force on the battlefield.
Their armor, forged from an alloy of beskar, offers unparalleled resistance, making them far more durable than their plastoid-clad predecessors. This enhancement alone makes them capable of holding their own against Mandalorian warriors, who are renowned for their combat prowess.
Their arsenal is equally impressive. Along with blaster rifles and pistols, they wield flamethrowers, whipcord launchers, and vibro-knives, while their jetpacks provide them with unparalleled mobility.
Commandos assigned to guard Moff Gideon or his command center stood out with distinctive red-painted vambraces, leg armor, and helmet stripes, signaling their elevated status.
These commandos are the result of Moff Gideon’s exploitation of Mandalore, using beskar stolen from the planet to create this elite unit.
Their superior aim, advanced tactics, and resilient armor made them not only a step above regular stormtroopers but a direct threat to even the most skilled Mandalorians.
