When most people talk about unbeatable Jedi, Yoda is always at the top of the list. The guy is basically a legend, right? Grand Master of the Jedi Order, survived centuries of chaos, outdueled Sith Lords, and always came out on top.
But here’s the thing: there’s actually one Jedi who managed to pull off the impossible and beat Yoda. It’s a detail a lot of fans miss, buried in official lore, but once you see the receipts, you’ll never look at Jedi duels the same way.

How Plo Koon Did the Impossible and Beat Yoda
If you’re deep into Star Wars lore, this little detail is an absolute gem from the Legends timeline. In the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Lightsaber Duels game for the Wii, which was part of the now-Legends multimedia project that included the 2008 Clone Wars movie and early tie-in materials, we actually get a nod to Plo Koon’s legendary feat.
Now, you don’t see Plo Koon and Yoda throwing down on screen, but the dialogue is right there in the game. When you pick Anakin Skywalker to fight against Plo Koon, Anakin drops the line: “I heard you’re one of the only Jedi to have ever beaten Master Yoda in a duel.”
It gets even better—if you select Kit Fisto to battle Plo Koon, he’ll say, “You fight with the finesse of Master Yoda.” It’s a deep-cut Easter egg, but for a lot of fans, that’s all the proof needed: Plo Koon is officially the Jedi who bested Yoda, at least in some corner of Star Wars canon.
Why Plo Koon Actually Deserves the Hype
Honestly, if you’ve only watched the movies, you might wonder what the big deal is about Plo Koon. But once you dive into the Clone Wars series, comics, and even some behind-the-scenes interviews, it’s pretty clear why he’s a fan-favourite (and why it’s actually believable he could beat Yoda).
For starters, Plo Koon is the Jedi who discovered Ahsoka Tano as a child and basically vouched for her when no one else did. He’s one of the few Jedi who could use Electric Judgment (think Force lightning, but used for good), which already puts him in rare company.
We see in The Clone Wars that clone troopers absolutely love this guy—every time we get a Plo Koon episode, it’s “Plo’s Bros” talking about how he actually treats clones like people, not expendable soldiers. In the cockpit, he’s an absolute beast (go back and watch “Rising Malevolence”—he’s leading the charge against Grievous’s flagship and outmaneuvers droid ships like it’s nothing).
Even Dave Filoni—the guy running the whole Clone Wars show—calls Plo Koon his favorite Jedi and goes out of his way to put him in more episodes. So yeah, when a guy like that gets a rare “I beat Yoda” shoutout, I totally buy it.
How Plo Koon Might Have Pulled It Off
Let’s be real, Star Wars canon doesn’t give us a play-by-play of Plo Koon versus Yoda. But if you look at how the Jedi handled lightsaber training and sparring, you can start to picture how it might’ve gone down.
In the Star Wars: Yoda comic series, we see Yoda, while in exile on Dagobah, reflecting on his days teaching younglings in the Jedi Temple.
One of my favorite moments comes in issue #4, where Yoda personally invites Dooku (back when he was still in the Order) to join his lightsaber training session. It’s classic Jedi stuff: the Grand Master bringing in his top students or even fellow Council members to demonstrate for the younglings, turning every lesson into a masterclass.
So imagine Yoda doing the same thing with Plo Koon, asking him to step onto the mat, maybe to show off an advanced technique or just to give the younglings a taste of high-level dueling.
If you know Plo, you know he’d show up calm and respectful, but absolutely ready to bring his best. In my head, this wouldn’t be about pride or ego, just two absolute legends putting on a show and challenging each other in the name of teaching.
Maybe Plo surprises Yoda with a creative new move, maybe it’s just a matter of catching Yoda off-guard for a split second. However it went down, I like to think it became one of those legendary Temple stories, full of respect, top-tier technique, and probably ending with Yoda grinning while the younglings totally lose their minds.

Also remember Yoda is very old for his species.
