I was looking at a thread where someone asked about a character from A New Hope, and I decided to do some digging. It turns out she’s Camie Marstrap. I noticed she pops up in some old deleted scenes and a lot of people don’t seem to recognize her, so I thought I’d piece it all together.
A Friendly Face from Tatooine
Camie is one of the friends Luke grew up with. She lived in Anchorhead and spent a lot of time hanging out at Tosche Station. I found out her family worked as hydroponic gardeners and often bought water from the Lars homestead, which is how she got to know Luke in the first place.
She was part of that small group with Biggs Darklighter, Deak, Windy, and her boyfriend Laze “Fixer” Loneozner. The group called Luke “Wormie” sometimes, and I can see why he felt like an outsider with them.
One scene I came across shows how strong she was. When some Nikto bikers started beating up Fixer, she tried to stop it. I watched as she yelled for them to leave him alone, and she didn’t back down, even when one of the bikers tried to hold her. It wasn’t until Boba Fett walked into the room and took down the whole gang that things settled down. It’s a quick scene, but it shows how brave she was in a scary moment.
Luke’s “What If” Dream
I came across this scene in The Last Jedi: Expanded Edition, and it really stayed with me. At the very start of the book, Luke has a dream about a life he never lived. In this version of events, he doesn’t save Leia. He doesn’t join the Rebellion. He doesn’t leave Tatooine at all. Instead, he stays on the farm, living a quiet life as a moisture farmer.
In this dream, he’s married to Camie, and the two of them live simply under the twin suns. They walk the fields together, tend to their work, and watch the days pass. But even in this quiet world, Luke feels a tug deep down. It’s a faint voice reminding him that he was meant for something more, that he could have been part of a bigger story.
I like this scene because it gives a glimpse of who Luke might have been if he had never left. It’s a softer, more human side of the character, one that makes the path he chose in the films feel even more meaningful.
Camie’s scene never made it into the original film, but I can tell why some still remember her. She gives a sense of belonging to Luke’s early years. It reminds me that before he left Tatooine, he had friends, a routine, and a life that felt normal.
She Shows Up Later, Too
Even though she was cut from A New Hope, she came back in The Book of Boba Fett when Boba arrives at Tosche Station.
When some Nikto bikers started beating up Fixer, she tried to stop it, she yelled for them to leave him alone, and she didn’t back down, even when one of the bikers tried to hold her. It wasn’t until Boba Fett walked into the room and took down the whole gang that things settled down.
It felt like a nice way to acknowledge a character that a lot of people had forgotten, showing how much attention the writers put into making connections with old stories and making the world of Star Wars feel lived-in.
