When we think of General Grievous, respect isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind—especially when it comes to Jedi. He spent his life hunting them down, blaming their Order for the suffering of his people on Kalee. To him, the Jedi were nothing more than weak, dishonorable warriors, who relied too much on the Force.
But surprisingly, there was one Jedi who actually earned his respect. So, what made this Jedi stand out? Why did Grievous respect this Jedi?
The Only Jedi General Grievous Respected
During the waning days of the Clone Wars, the Battle of Coruscant became an important moment in the galaxy’s history.
The Separatists, under the command of General Grievous, launched a daring assault on the Republic’s capital, capturing Chancellor Palpatine and causing widespread chaos.
The Jedi Order, scrambling to defend the heart of the Republic, dispatched many of its warriors to confront the invading forces.
During the Battle of Coruscant, as detailed in “Labyrinth of Evil,” Grievous encountered Jedi Knight B’ink Utrila.

In his fight with Jedi Knight B’ink Utrila, Grievous witnessed a level of bravery and determination that cut through his usual contempt.
B’ink, though outmatched in terms of raw power and combat experience, displayed a fearlessness that resonated with Grievous on a fundamental level.
Her refusal to yield, even in the face of almost certain death, was a quality that Grievous—who had also risen from the ashes of destruction—could not help but admire.
She fought valiantly, managing to land several blows on Grievous. Her bravery and tenacity in the face of overwhelming odds were remarkable.
In a rare moment of respect, Grievous acknowledged Bink’s bravery after defeating her. He impaled her through the heart, but instead of discarding her body as he did with many of his fallen foes, he showed reverence for her. Grievous took her lightsaber as a trophy, a symbol of his respect for an underdog who displayed courage and resilience.
B’ink Utrila Had a Padawan, but She Left the Order
Did you know that Jedi Master B’ink Utrila once had a Padawan, but in the end, her student chose to leave the Jedi Order? This is where that story unfolds.
B’ink Utrila, a red-skinned Twi’lek, served as a Jedi instructor and Master during the Clone Wars. She spent most of her time at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, training the next generation of Jedi and preparing them for the challenges ahead. As the war raged on and Jedi numbers dwindled, her role as a teacher became even more crucial.
Among her students was a human Padawan named Rennax Omani. Together, they undertook dangerous missions, including a critical assignment to the moon Draay 2.
In The Clone Wars: Defenders of the Lost Temple comic, we follow Utrila and Omani as they lead a squad of clone troopers—Lieutenant Law, Cannon, Glitch, and Horns—through Draay 2’s perilous landscape in search of a hidden Jedi Temple. Inside the temple, they encountered an ancient guardian droid, programmed to protect the site from intruders. Through teamwork and mastery of the Force, Utrila and Omani managed to deactivate the droid and proceed deeper inside.
Their journey led them to the Gauntlet, an artifact imbued with overwhelming dark side energy. The moment Master Utrila touched it, she felt its corrupting influence. Realizing the danger it posed, she decided the Gauntlet was too powerful to move. However, before they could act, the Mandalorian Death Watch, led by Pre Vizsla, ambushed them, aiming to claim the artifact for themselves. A fierce battle broke out, leading to the temple’s collapse and the apparent destruction of the Gauntlet.
The ordeal left a lasting impact on Padawan Omani. Witnessing the destructive power of the dark side and the chaos it brought, she made a life-changing decision—she no longer wanted to be a Jedi. Instead of continuing on the path of war and conflict, she chose to return to her homeworld and forge a new path for herself.
Master Utrila, though saddened, understood her Padawan’s turmoil and supported her decision. It was a rare moment of acceptance within the Order, marking the end of their partnership but also highlighting the immense burden Jedi carried—not just in battle, but in the personal choices they had to make.
