Why Ahsoka’s Lightsaber Colors Changed From Green to Blue in the Final Season of “The Clone Wars.”

Why Ahsoka’s Lightsaber Colors Changed From Green to Blue in the Final Season of “The Clone Wars.”

Assuming you’ve seen the final season of the renowned series ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars’, you’ll recall the moment Ahsoka returned and received her dual-bladed lightsaber from her master, Anakin Skywalker.

You might have noticed a change in detail – Ahsoka’s lightsabers, which were green the last time she used them, are now blue in the final season.

Wondering how this change occurred?

I have the answer for you. Rest assured, this isn’t speculation; the information has been confirmed by Dave Filoni, the executive producer behind the final season of the series. So, let’s dive in!

When Ahsoka first joined the Jedi Order, she, like all other Jedi, received a single lightsaber. As a Padawan, she had to learn how to use her lightsaber and understand the Force.

In episode 5 of the series ‘Tales of the Jedi: Practices Make Perfect’, we see Ahsoka skillfully handling the training droids.

However, Anakin believed that the traditional Jedi training methods weren’t enough, especially during wartime.

So, Anakin decided to train Ahsoka using his clone troopers and blasters set to stun mode. Despite several failed attempts, Ahsoka persevered.

The game-changer was when Rex handed her a second lightsaber. This new weapon was not only the same green as Ahsoka’s original lightsaber, but it was also shorter, much like Yoda’s own shoto lightsaber.

Armed with a dual-bladed lightsaber, Ahsoka excelled in her training and gained confidence. Through Anakin’s rigorous training, she discovered her unique lightsaber fighting style.

Moreover, she became accustomed to the clone troopers, which later helped her survive Order 66. This was exactly what Anakin had trained her for – to be a survivor.

The Connection Between Anakin and Ahsoka – Master and Apprentice

With her dual-bladed lightsaber, Ahsoka Tano became aware of the unique Jedi who also wielded a dual-bladed green lightsaber.

From the outset, Ahsoka’s lightsabers were green, aligning her more with Jedi Consulars. For a deeper understanding of this, you can refer to our article that explains the details of lightsaber colors.

Now, let’s return to our main topic: why did Ahsoka’s lightsaber change from its original green to blue in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Season 7?

To understand this, we need to recall that Anakin Skywalker held onto Ahsoka’s dual-bladed lightsaber when she departed from the Jedi Order.

When Ahsoka and Anakin met again, Anakin was eager to return her lightsabers, but with a slight modification.

This raises the question: how did Anakin make this change? Did he alter the Kyber crystal inside Ahsoka’s lightsabers? This is a question many Star Wars fans, including us, have pondered.

The change in Ahsoka’s lightsaber color from green to blue is not just a random decision, but a thoughtful one made by Anakin Skywalker, her master.

Anakin and Ahsoka

Anakin, being well-versed in the mechanics of lightsabers, was able to alter the angle or frequency of the saber blade or crystal to make it more like his own.

Anakin’s decision to change the color of Ahsoka’s lightsabers to blue, the same color as his own, was a way to show the deep connection between them.

Dave Filoni, the executive producer and supervising director behind ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’, has confirmed this:

Anakin knows enough about lightsabers to be able to alter the angle or frequency of the saber blade, or crystal, to make it more like his own. As far as the story goes, I wanted to show a clear connection between the master and apprentice relationship of Anakin and Ahsoka, so I decided to shift her lightsabers to blue, like Anakin’s.

When Ahsoka was away, Anakin kept himself busy by modifying her lightsabers. This shows how much he was thinking about her.

In this story, the lightsabers are not just tools for battle; they symbolize Ahsoka and show how much Anakin cares for her.

Also, Anakin’s choice to change the lightsaber color can be seen as him trying to control or protect Ahsoka too much.

This is a typical behavior of Anakin and gives us a deeper understanding of his complicated character.

Dave Filoni continues his interview

Him tinkering with her lightsabers while she is gone shows that he was always thinking of her. And the lightsabers are then a representation of her in the story, and his thoughtfulness regarding her. His changing the color can also be seen as him exerting control, or being too protective, which is very Anakin.

It’s clear that Anakin is always thinking about Ahsoka, especially when he gets a chance to see her again.

Even with the mission at hand, Anakin’s first reaction upon seeing Ahsoka is to express his disbelief and concern for her well-being, asking non-stop, “I don’t believe it. How are you? Where are you? Are you ok?

Final Words

Ahsoka Tano’s lightsabers are more than weapons. They symbolize her journey from a Padawan to a survivor.

The change from a single green lightsaber to dual-bladed, and then to blue, reflects her growth, resilience, and the deep bond with her master, Anakin Skywalker.

These changes, explained by Dave Filoni, highlight Anakin’s influence and thoughtfulness towards Ahsoka.

In essence, Ahsoka’s lightsabers tell the story of her enduring spirit.
