Why Obi-Wan & Anakin’s Lightsabers DON’T TOUCH in the Mustafar Fight

Why Obi-Wan & Anakin’s Lightsabers DON’T TOUCH in the Mustafar Fight

The battle on Mustafar begins when Obi-Wan and Padmé confront Anakin, and we all know how it ends.

However, there’s an interesting detail in the first duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan, particularly during their fight in the separatist room.

If you don’t remember, I’ll provide a video link for you to catch up at the specified time frame of 3:13.

This is no coincidence.

Obi-Wan had trained Anakin extensively, passing down his techniques and fighting style. But here’s the intriguing part: despite performing the same moves, their lightsabers don’t touch.

The reason for this can be found in the Star Wars novel, Master and Apprentice.

The book reveals that while Anakin was still a Jedi, he and Obi-Wan spent countless hours training together with their lightsabers.

They practiced so much that they could anticipate each other’s next move. The book states, “blade to blade, they were completely identical. They were complementary halves of a single warrior.”

Reflecting on this, we can understand their intense synchronization during the Mustafar duel.

The flashback scenes in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series also show how well Anakin and Obi-Wan understood each other’s fighting styles.

Obi-Wan’s defensive techniques matched Anakin’s aggressive attacks perfectly, and Anakin knew his master’s prowess with a lightsaber, using it to his advantage.

In the Mustafar duel, this deep understanding explains why their lightsabers didn’t touch during the spinning move.

They were so in sync that mirroring each other’s skills was natural and believable.

Their bond and extensive training allowed them to fight in perfect harmony, even as they battled each other with lethal intent.
