When the battle started, Vader struck down several Jedi without hesitation. Then Potkin stepped forward, and her blade met his. The instant they clashed, Vader’s lightsaber shut down. For the first time since serving the Emperor, he faced his enemies without his weapon.
Potkin believed she had cornered him, but Vader reacted fast. He used the Force to choke her and ended her life within seconds. He then took her cortosis blade and finished the fight. The encounter revealed something important: cortosis could turn a Sith’s greatest strength into their weakness.
Vader’s fight on Kessel became one of many stories about cortosis that spread across the galaxy. During the Jedi Civil War, assassins and soldiers used cortosis blades to face Jedi and Sith on equal ground. Some even built armor lined with cortosis to survive direct lightsaber hits.
Later, the Trade Federation equipped assassin droids with cortosis weapons during the Invasion of Naboo. Those droids managed to hold their own against Jedi like Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, giving them a rare upper hand.
