Anakin Impresses Palpatine by ATTACKING Two Padawans!

Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of young Anakin Skywalker might be like, especially during his training at the Jedi Temple?

In Star Wars: Obi-Wan and Anakin, a comic book miniseries by Charles Soule and illustrated by Marco Checchetto, we get an insightful peek.

I’m excited to share this story with you, where Anakin turns a routine training session into an unforgettable adventure full of surprises and important lessons.

The Training Session

The day began like any other at the Jedi Temple, with young Padawans honing their skills and Jedi Masters overseeing their progress. Anakin Skywalker, however, was in a mood to shake things up.

As he sparred with a training droid, the onlookers—Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Chancellor Palpatine—expected nothing out of the ordinary. Yet, Anakin had other ideas.

In a bold display of ingenuity, Anakin tampered with the training droid’s programming and appearance, transforming it into the image of Darth Maul, the Sith Lord whose very presence evoked a mixture of fear and fascination.

This unexpected change caught everyone off guard, especially Obi-Wan, who had a deeply personal history with Maul.

“Anakin’s been asking me about my fight with the Sith on Naboo — very detailed questions… but I assumed it was just natural curiosity, I had no idea he would…” Obi-Wan said, his voice trailing off as he confronted the shock of seeing his past nemesis reborn in droid form.

Chancellor Palpatine, ever the observer of Anakin’s growing potential and inner turmoil, couldn’t help but comment on the spectacle.

“Come now, my Jedi friends, a boy of his age, altering a training droid in this way, simply to impress his teachers? I would say that is more than unexpected. I would call it… impressive,” he remarked, his words laced with hidden meaning and a hint of the darker path he envisioned for Anakin.

Anakin’s Emotional Outburst

As Anakin skillfully defeated the Maul-like droid, demonstrating his exceptional combat prowess, he couldn’t escape the whispers and taunts of his peers.

Other Padawans, watching from a distance, began to murmur about Anakin’s emotional vulnerabilities, labeling him a “slave to his emotions.”

These words pierced through Anakin’s concentration, igniting a flare of anger within him.

Anakin Slave of emotion

In a moment driven by his wounded pride, Anakin used the Force to snatch the lightsabers from the taunting Padawans, igniting them in a dramatic and intimidating display.

This act of aggression was a clear deviation from the Jedi’s teachings of peace and emotional control.

Young Anakin

This moment marked a significant lapse in Anakin’s judgment, prompting Obi-Wan to step in and guide him back toward the Jedi way.

Obi-Wan didn’t lecture; instead, he reminded Anakin of the importance of mastering one’s emotions to avoid the darker paths the Force can lead to.

Realizing his mistake, Anakin cooled down, deactivated the lightsabers, and returned them to their rightful owners, offering a sincere apology for his earlier actions.

However, these acts did not escape Palpatine’s eyes…

Why does this event offer a glimpse into Anakin’s future journey?

That day at the Jedi Temple was truly a defining moment for Anakin.

His ingenious modification of the training droid impressed everyone, and none more so than Palpatine. But even more telling was how Anakin dealt with the harsh words from the other Padawans and how he sought to make things right.

Charles Soule and Marco Checchetto skillfully depicted these events, and it’s clear that Palpatine took note.

They showed us Anakin’s blend of remarkable abilities and emotional depth, giving us a glimpse into why Palpatine saw him as a prime candidate for the dark side in the future.

This story is a gentle reminder that Anakin’s journey was about more than his power—it was also about the decisions he made and how they shaped his path.
