Whenever we get asked what a Clone Trooper looks like, the answer is simple for most Star Wars fans.
“They’re all clones of Jango Fett, each trooper with the same face, voice, and skill set.”
You might even dive into the details, describing their armor from Phase I to Phase II, or how some of them stand out with unique designs on their helmets and gear.
These points create a clear image of the clones we’ve come to know.
But what if I told you that there’s more to the story now?
You might want to update your Clone Trooper knowledge because, on October 8, 2024, Star Wars: The Secrets of the Clone Troopers by Insight Editions introduced a character who breaks the mold, a trans female clone trooper, officially named Sister.
Yes, this is canon.
Sister, who served in the 7th Sky Corps alongside legends like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, is a striking addition to the Star Wars universe.
Her identity adds a new layer to the clone narrative, showing that even within an army of identical soldiers, individuality and personal identity still emerge.
The Sister is just like any Clone Trooper, created by the Kaminoans from the same genetic template of Jango Fett, but with a unique twist to her identity.
As detailed in The Secrets of the Clone Troopers, she initially feared how her fellow soldiers would react to her expressing her gender identity differently.
But the bond between the troopers in the 7th Sky Corps was stronger than her fears.
As Captain Rex himself shared, “When one of our kind expressed her gender identity differently than her fellow troopers, she feared she’d have to hide who she truly was inside. Fortunately, her brothers in the 7th Sky Corps gave her the name Sister as a constant reminder that she belonged.”
Sister, like the rest of her clone brothers, stood 1.83 meters tall with tan skin and weighed eighty kilograms.
However, she embraced her individuality by growing her long, dark hair and styling it in tightly woven braids, a unique feature that distinguished her among her fellow troopers.
Her armor, too, was a reflection of her identity. Unlike the standard issue gear of troopers like Rex or Cody, Sister’s armor was adorned with vertical blue and magenta stripes, symbolizing both her place within the 7th Sky Corps and her journey of self-expression.
