Force Ghost Anakin & Obi-Wan Conversation
In 2015, a LINE Webtoon series was launched, based on the Star Wars trilogy. This series was both written and illustrated by Hong Jac Ga.
As we know from the end of ‘Return of the Jedi’, Luke Skywalker successfully dismantles the Empire and subsequently sees the Force Ghosts of Yoda, Obi-Wan, and his father, Anakin Skywalker, on Endor.
In this Webtoon series, we are privy to a brief conversation between Anakin and his former Jedi master, Obi-Wan.
Anakin inquires about Obi-Wan’s thoughts on whether his son, Luke Skywalker, will be alright. In response, Obi-Wan replies, “Maybe… He’s been all right so far.”
But why would Anakin ask Obi-Wan? Here’s my theory: In the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ series, we see Obi-Wan watching over Luke when he was still a child.
Furthermore, during a training session where Luke uses a lightsaber against a droid, Obi-Wan is the only one who believes that Luke can sense the droid, even though Luke had not received any Jedi training prior to this.
Guidance from Anakin’s Force Ghost: Luke’s Journey to Restore the Jedi Order
The insights into Anakin’s role as a Force Ghost, guiding Luke on his mission to restore the Jedi Order, are derived from the canonical novel Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi.
This book, penned by Marc Sumerak and illustrated by Sergio Gómez Silván, offers a glimpse into the secrets of the Jedi from Luke Skywalker’s perspective.
In one section, Luke introduces us to the concept of Light Force Abilities, specifically, Spirits, also known as Force Ghosts.
Luke elaborates on the ability of Force Ghosts and mentions that the Force Ghosts of Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Yoda guided him for many years while he was trying to restore the Jedi Order.
However, the spirits disappeared when Luke chose to disconnect himself from the Force and exiled himself.
Anakin’s Force Ghost and Encourage Rey
In the climactic confrontation of ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’, Rey finds herself on the brink of defeat.
In this moment of despair, she reaches out through the Force and hears the voices of past Jedi, including the voice of Anakin Skywalker, her predecessor in the Skywalker lineage.
Anakin, once a Jedi Knight who fell to the dark side before redeeming himself, speaks to Rey from beyond the grave.
His voice, a manifestation of the Force Ghost phenomenon, resonates with wisdom and experience. He urges her, “Bring back the balance, Rey, as I did.”
A Farewell to Ahsoka
In the gripping conclusion of the Ahsoka series, aptly named “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord”, we witness the spectral form of Anakin Skywalker, the Force Ghost, making a timely appearance.
This occurs just as Grand Admiral Thrawn makes his escape back to the original galaxy. Amidst the chaos, Ahsoka and Sabine Wren find themselves ensnared on the planet Peridea.
It is here that Anakin’s Force Ghost materializes, his ethereal smile a beacon of reassurance for Ahsoka. This spectral visitation serves as a confirmation that Ahsoka is precisely where destiny intended her to be.
Anakin’s spectral return in the Ahsoka series weaves a thread of continuity with his previous apparitions in the Star Wars saga, fostering a sense of interconnectedness throughout the franchise.
His ghostly presence is a testament to Ahsoka Tano’s evolution as a Jedi and underscores her pivotal role as a mentor to Sabine Wren.
The invocation of Anakin and the allusion to the Mortis gods in the series finale hint at Anakin’s enduring relevance in the Star Wars universe.
It leaves us with the tantalizing possibility that Anakin may yet return in his spectral form, continuing to influence the course of events from beyond the grave.
