For those of you who remember the classic Ewok movies from the ’80s, we’ve got some fun news—Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is bringing back Teek, the lovable, lightning-fast creature from The Battle for Endor.
It’s a surprising yet exciting nod to one of the more obscure corners of Star Wars lore, and it shows how Lucasfilm is diving deep to reconnect with characters that have been out of the spotlight for decades.
Let’s rewind for those who might not remember: The Battle for Endor was a 1985 made-for-TV movie that followed Wicket the Ewok and his adventures.
It introduced Teek, a hyperactive, incredibly fast creature from Endor with a knack for getting into trouble but always coming through for his friends.
While Teek didn’t make it into the main Star Wars films, his quirky personality and speed made him a fan-favorite for those who watched the Ewok movies.
In Skeleton Crew, Teek’s return will be directed by David Lowery, known for his work on The Green Knight and Pete’s Dragon.
Lowery expressed his excitement for working with the original hand-puppet approach to Teek, describing it as an almost surreal experience. “I was most excited about having hand puppets on set,” Lowery shared.
“It’s the most ancient technology being used with the most cutting-edge technology, simultaneously. That combination was absolutely magical. There’s a character in my episode that’s … the Teek, from Battle For Endor. And it’s just a little hand puppet! … I was like, ‘Is he gonna get digitally touched up, or replaced?’ No, in the final episode it’s just a hand puppet in the middle of this crazy Volume set. The cognitive dissonance of seeing those two things together, live in front of you, is absolutely incredible”
Skeleton Crew, starring Jude Law, is set to debut on Disney+ in December and is described as a coming-of-age adventure reminiscent of classic Amblin films like E.T. and The Goonies.
Teek’s mischievous energy and lightning-fast reflexes could add humor and action, bringing a lighthearted touch to the crew’s journey.
For longtime fans, Teek’s return is a treat that taps into the heart of Star Wars nostalgia. While the Ewok movies aren’t as widely known as the main Star Wars films, they’re part of the franchise’s charm and history.
