When it comes to Star Wars, there’s always been a lot of mystery surrounding the legendary bounty hunter Jango Fett, and even more so his iconic armor.
Fans have been debating what it’s actually made of for years. In The Mandalorian, we all learn that Boba Fett’s armor is, in fact, Jango’s original suit.
But this brings up a big question: so what material is Jango Fett’s armor made of now? Is it pure beskar, durasteel, or a combination of both?
The wear and tear on the armor make us wonder if it’s something other than the indestructible pure beskar we’ve come to know.
Let’s find out.

Beskar or Durasteel?
You’ve probably noticed that Boba Fett’s armor, despite its toughness, has seen better days.
There’s visible damage, and that’s where the debate begins: if this armor is made from beskar, how is it so banged up?
One of the most obvious signs of damage is the dent in Boba Fett’s helmet.
According to The Clone Wars (though the scene was unfinished), this dent was caused by a blaster shot from Cad Bane during a duel.
The most likely explanation is that it’s not pure beskar. In Star Wars Rebels and other sources, we learned that due to overmining on Mandalore, most Mandalorian armor is made from a beskar alloy – a mix of beskar and other metals like durasteel.
This alloy is tough but falls short of the resilience of pure beskar. Given the damage to Boba’s armor (or Jango’s armor), it was likely to be made from this beskar alloy.
In addition, pure beskar is incredibly rare, and by the time Jango acquired his armor, Mandalore was already facing a shortage.
The armor’s ability to withstand blaster fire (as we saw in the Cobb Vanth flashback in The Mandalorian) suggests it contains beskar.
However, the visible damage, especially the helmet dent, indicates that it isn’t pure beskar but rather an alloy.
This combination would give the armor a strong defense against most weapons but would still allow for the kind of wear and tear we’ve seen.
The Helmet’s Mysterious History
One lingering question is the status of Jango’s helmet. In The Clone Wars, we saw Boba use his father’s helmet as a bomb to try and kill Mace Windu, partially destroying it.
So, is the helmet we see now the same one, or has it been replaced or repaired?
This part of the armor’s history remains a bit of a mystery, but given that the chest plate and other parts seem original, it’s possible that Boba either repaired the helmet or found a replacement.
Final Thoughts: Durasteel, Beskar, or Both?
So, is Jango Fett’s armor beskar, durasteel, or something else? All signs point to it being a mix of beskar and durasteel, a reflection of Mandalorian history and the limitations of beskar itself.
While Boba Fett’s armor may not be pure beskar, it’s still incredibly strong, capable of taking a lot of punishment, just not invulnerable.
The wear and tear we see on his armor is a testament to the life of a bounty hunter, surviving battles that would have destroyed lesser armor.
Whether beskar or a blend, the armor remains a symbol of resilience, history, and Mandalorian pride, worn by two of the galaxy’s most famous warriors.
