I was rewatching The Clone Wars recently, and it hit me just how much young Boba Fett went through. His story is wild! It got me wondering—when Darth Vader crossed paths with him later on, did he know about Boba’s past as a clone? There’s a lot to unpack here, from Jango Fett’s legacy to how Vader might have seen Boba differently from other bounty hunters.
Let me share what I found—it’s a story worth geeking out over!

How The Story Begins
The narrative starts with a young Boba Fett, motivated by vengeance for his father, Jango Fett’s, death, as seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 2, beginning with Episode 20.
Under the guise of Count Dooku’s mission, Boba, with his band of bounty hunters, aims to target Jedi Master Mace Windu, seeking revenge.
Boba secretly joins the ranks of the Clone Youth Brigade, a group of young clone troopers aboard a Jedi Cruiser.
He aims for revenge against Windu, the Jedi who fatally struck his father, Jango Fett, with a purple lightsaber during the Battle of Geonosis, as depicted in “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.”
Darth Vader Knew Boba Was A Clone
On his mission to eliminate Mace Windu, Boba Fett set a trap, intending to eliminate Windu in an explosion.
Unfortunately, a clone trooper triggers the trap instead, sparing Windu.
Learning that Windu survived the blast, Boba resolves to destroy the Jedi Cruiser, believing this drastic action will finally take Windu down.
Despite the cruiser’s destruction as Boba planned, Windu, along with Anakin Skywalker, manages to escape the destruction in their fighters.
Meanwhile, Boba makes his getaway in an Escape Pod, accompanied by other young clone troopers.
As the Cruiser makes a crash landing on a nearby planet, Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu pursue in their fighter jets.
Upon arriving at the wreckage, they begin a search for the cruiser’s Admiral and any survivors.
Reaching the Commander’s room, they find no one alive; the Admiral and his group have vanished, leaving behind only Jango Fett’s helmet as a silent testament.
Upon discovering Jango Fett’s helmet, Mace immediately suspects a traitor is targeting him aboard the cruiser.
This helmet, cleverly booby-trapped by Boba Fett, serves as one more calculated snare designed exclusively for Mace.
The explosion further compromises the cruiser’s stability, causing parts of the cruiser to come crashing down on Mace and Anakin.
Although the debris immobilizes them, they sustain no grave injuries. Following this, Anakin signals his droid, R2-D2, to request backup from other Jedi.
During this intense situation, Mace shares with Anakin the reason behind Boba’s pursuit: the death of Jango Fett at Mace’s hands during the Battle of Geonosis, a moment Boba saw with his own eyes.
Mace goes on to describe Boba, whom Jango treated as his own son, as a distinct clone.
This information later resonates with Anakin, who, as Darth Vader, comes to understand Boba Fett’s true nature as a clone.
Boba Fett: the Strongest of the Clones
Boba Fett stands out as one of the most formidable clones, distinct from his brethren.
Even as a young boy, Boba nearly succeeded in eliminating Mace Windu, one of the Jedi Order’s most powerful masters, not just once, but twice.
In “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” Darth Vader enlists Boba Fett along with other bounty hunters to track down the Millennium Falcon.
Vader was indifferent to the methods used in locating the ship; his main concern was ensuring Han Solo, Leia, and Chewbacca remained unharmed.
Gaining Darth Vader’s trust is a significant achievement for any bounty hunter.
Boba’s close calls in nearly defeating a top Jedi Council member probably assured Vader that Boba was the perfect candidate for this crucial task.
