How Much Can Yoda Lift With the Force?

How Much Can Yoda Lift With the Force?

Yoda was one of the smallest Force-sensitive beings in Star Wars. But he was also among the strongest, demonstrating a connection to the Force no other Jedi in the saga reached. A model Jedi, Yoda proved that “size matters not.”

Yoda was so strong with the Force that he absorbed Force lightning with his bare hands and levitated Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing Starfighter. Despite his old age and small size, Yoda showed Luke that the deeper one’s connection to the Force, the stronger they became.

Is Yoda Strong With the Force?

Yoda is the most physically deceptive character in Star Wars. One of the smallest Jedi in the saga, he’s rarely seen without a walking stick.

At nearly 900 years old, there are times Yoda looks as though he’s about to keel over. Then, he retrieves his lightsaber and he’s pulling off jaw-dropping acrobatics, deflecting Force-lightning, and lifting starships out of swamps with the Force.

To say Yoda’s strong with the Force is an understatement. The former Jedi Grand Master relied on the Force for just about anything, and it never failed him.

Add Yoda’s lightsaber skills to his deep strength and connection with the Force, and it’s easy to see why he was arguably the most powerful Jedi Master in the Star Wars Saga.

How Strong is Yoda With the Force?

The two most powerful Sith Lords in the Prequel Trilogy not named Darth Vader were Darth Sidious and Darth Tyranus, better known as Count Dooku, and neither could overpower Yoda.

Given Yoda’s skill with his lightsaber, Dooku fled Geonosis in Attack of the Clones, while Sidious got rid of his lightsaber, knowing he could not defeat Yoda with lightsabers alone. However, they found out that resorting to their Force powers also spelled trouble.

While Sidious believed Force lightning would defeat Yoda, the latter absorbed and deflected it back at the Sith Lord. Yoda was so well-versed against Force lightning, he used the concept of Tutaminis to absorb it into his bare hands, something few Jedi were capable of.

While all Jedi learned Tutaminis at a young age, few could use it to absorb Force lightning.

How Jedi Blocked Force Lightning, Lightsabers and Blaster Bolts With Their BARE HANDS

Three years earlier on Geonosis, Dooku tried to crush Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi with a metal pillar via the Force. However, Yoda stepped in and deflected the pillar easily.

Go back to Rugosa, where Yoda single-handedly defeated a droid squad with his green-bladed Shoto and his Force telekinesis, and it further shows Yoda’s rare strength with the Force.

At one touch, Yoda demonstrated the ability to uncover the alignment of a Force-user. This further showed that he became so ingrained in the Force that it allowed him to tap into any Force-user’s personal history.

This strength with the Force further evolved on Dagobah, where he tapped into surviving Jedi living in secret across the galaxy. However, this ability did not apply to those who abandoned the Order, like Darth Vader.

How Much Can Yoda Lift With the Force?

When teaching Luke Skywalker the ways of the Force in The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda lifted Skywalker’s X-Wing Starfighter out of a swamp, demonstrating anything is possible with the Force.

Yoda proved that within the Jedi Order, size meant nothing. He spent nearly a millennium allying himself with the Force, and in return, the Force granted him god-like strength, even in his old age and with his small size.

How Much Weight Can Darth Vader Lift?

Following Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader became more of a cyborg than a human. And following his transformation, the Sith Lord became one of the galaxy’s most powerful beings in his connection to the Force.

But even before the dramatic transformation that allowed him to Force choke anyone he wanted with ease, we need to revert back to Darth Vader’s days as Anakin Skywalker to answer the question.

Conceived by the Force, Vader’s midichlorian count was higher than any other Jedi’s. This gave him potential to take his ability further than even Yoda could have managed.

And even if Vader did not lose to Kenobi, which necessitated the cyborg suit, Vader would still be able to lift just as much if not more than Yoda, assuming he deepened his connection to the Force

In Paul S. Kemp’s book entitled Lords of the Sith, Darth Sidious tests Vader after he loses his legs and left arm following his duel with Kenobi on Mustafar.

While Sidious was initially afraid the lost limbs would hinder Vader’s strength, it became clear that Vader’s artificial limbs instead worked in his favor.

So, if Yoda relied on his flesh to levitate objects with the Force, why could Vader take things further as a cyborg?

Because it forced Vader to further bond with the Force. And doing so went far beyond increasing his physical strength.

Regarding physical strength and how much he could lift, Vader used telekinesis to levitate AT-DP Arc Cannon Prototypes. These towering walkers were strong enough to destroy an entire army. So Vader’s ability to throw these heavy pieces of armor around proved quite the feat.

Why Did Yoda Struggle to Lift?

It’s ironic that Yoda lifted an entire starship out of the water but struggled to stop a metal pillar from crushing Anakin and Obi-Wan. However, when you scope the situations, you will see why this is the case.

When Yoda lifted Luke’s starship out of a swamp on Dagobah, he channeled his focus only on the X-Wing Starfighter. There were no potential distractions other than Luke’s anger and disbelief.

However, during the events seen in Attack of the Clones, Yoda dealt with a potential distraction in Count Dooku. While Dooku fled, he could have reversed course and gone after Yoda, forcing the Grand Master to consider such a scenario.

Since the metal pillar was falling, Yoda also had to account for its velocity. This wasn’t the case with the starship on Dagobah. Further, Yoda had to watch where the pillar landed, ensuring it did not crush Anakin and Obi-Wan.

It showed that even if one like Yoda is well-versed in the Force, they are not immune to struggles in a potentially hazardous situation. In a peaceful setting where Yoda demonstrated his power, it was much easier for him to lift such a large object.

Conclusion

Yoda is one of the strongest Jedi in Star Wars and his deep connection to the Force further demonstrates this. Despite his small size, Yoda developed superhuman-like strength that allowed him to show others how a deep connection to the Force would benefit them.

He absorbed and reflected Force lightning from some of the most powerful Sith Lords of the age. And he even single-handedly took on entire squads in combat via a cool combination of his lightsaber ability and the Force.
