How Old is Rotta the Hutt?

How Old is Rotta the Hutt?

When Rotta the Hutt first appeared in The Clone Wars, he was still just Jabba’s baby son.

He was small, sick, and kidnapped during the war, which is why Anakin and Ahsoka had to bring him back to Jabba safely. But now that Rotta is returning in The Mandalorian and Grogu, he is clearly no longer the tiny Hutt fans remember from the Clone Wars movie.

How old is Rotta the Hutt by the time we see him again?

Rotta Was Still an Infant During the Clone Wars

All Rotta the Huttlet scenes - The Clone Wars

When Rotta first appeared in The Clone Wars, he was still just Jabba’s baby son.

He was small, sick, and helpless enough that Ahsoka had to carry him while she and Anakin tried to get him back to Jabba safely. The whole mission only happens because Rotta is kidnapped during the war, and the Jedi are forced into the middle of Hutt politics to return him.

Rotta Is Probably in His Mid-30s by The Mandalorian and Grogu

The Clone Wars begins around 22 BBY, and that is where Rotta first appears as Jabba’s baby son. If he was an infant at that point, then his age depends on where The Mandalorian and Grogu lands in the New Republic timeline.

The Mandalorian era takes place years after Return of the Jedi, and The Mandalorian and Grogu continues that part of the timeline. If the movie is set around the early New Republic years, roughly in the 9 ABY to 13 ABY range, then Rotta would be somewhere around 31 to 35 years old.

That is why the safest answer is that Rotta is probably in his early-to-mid 30s when he appears again.

His exact age has not been officially stated yet, but the math lines up pretty clearly. He was a baby during the Clone Wars, and more than three decades have passed by the time Din Djarin and Grogu are active after the fall of the Empire.
