Could Jar Jar Binks Be A Sith Lord?

Could Jar Jar Binks Be A Sith Lord?

When you consider all the Star Wars fan theories that have emerged over the years, by far one of the most intriguing is the possibility that Jar Jar Binks could be a Sith Lord. This seemingly ridiculous theory is enough to make anyone laugh, but is there any stock in it?

It may be tempting to laugh it off as a joke or an exaggerated sub-plot gone wrong. This is Jar Jar, the most clumsy and borderline pointless character in all of Star Wars.

However, the more we looked into it, the more things seemed a bit fishy. His role in the prequels is almost unnecessary, yet he seems to have a hand in every important moment that comes to pass.

So what is it? Is he a careless and clumsy creature? Or is he the most powerful Sith lord in all existence?

On the surface, Jar Jar Binks looks like a foolish alien from the planet of Naboo that somehow managed to rise up the ranks of the Senate and create close ties with both the Jedi and Palpatine. Though in the canon this is all coincidence, some fans aren’t convinced.

The foundation of the Jar Jar Sith theory is that Jar Jar worked events in the prequels to his benefit by using Sith mind control tactics. As ridiculous as it sounds, it is a bit fishy that Jar Jar manages to find himself in all the right places at exactly the right times.

In some instances he even manages to “unintentionally” benefit the Sith. This may sound crazy, but there’s some evidence to support it.

In fact, Jar Jar is almost directly responsible for granting emergency powers to Chancellor Palpatine, a move that would start the dictatorship of the Empire and the rise of the Sith. Jar Jar was the one who proposed the idea to the senate, despite not being particularly qualified to do so.

Without Jar Jar proposing Palpatine be granted emergency powers, he wouldn’t have risen to power. So much of the Sith’s plan hinges on this crucial decision, and it was Jar Jar who put it into action.

This video makes some unfounded claims, but like any conspiracy theory there’s some thought provoking content in there. Jar Jar certainly seems to be working events in his favor and even in the favor of the Sith.

Despite all the strange coincidences and mishaps that surround Jar Jar’s existence, there’s still no official canon evidence to support that Jar Jar is a Sith. However, George Lucas had some thoughts while creating Jar Jar that could add to the puzzle.

Reportedly, George Lucas once stated that Jar Jar was originally supposed to be an undercover Sith. Much like Yoda was secretly a Jedi master disguised as a goofy little creature, Jar Jar was supposed to be a Sith disguised as a clumsy alien friend.

Even though this claim isn’t confirmed, it could account for some of Jar Jar’s bizarre plot points. It certainly sounds feasible for Geroge Lucas to try to replicate Yoda’s first appearances with a Sith spy.

Some fans really took this theory and ran with it. Some even considered Jar Jar to secretly be Darth Plageis.

However, despite any evidence, there is no canon reason to believe Jar Jar is a Sith lord. As far as Lucasfilms and now Disney are concerned, Jar Jar is still just a clumsy idiot creature from Naboo.
