After years of waiting, Battlefront fans finally have something more concrete to talk about. EA has confirmed that DICE and Respawn Entertainment will work together on a new project, and Variety reports that it is Star Wars: Battlefront 3. The pairing is especially interesting: one studio helped build modern Battlefront, while the other made Titanfall, Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi games.
EA Confirms the Team-Up, Variety Names Battlefront 3
In its October 21 company update, EA announced that Respawn and DICE would collaborate on a future project alongside its upcoming Battlefield games.
EA did not name that project, but Variety reported, citing multiple sources, that the studios are teaming up for Star Wars: Battlefront 3. The collaboration is official; the Battlefront name comes from Variety’s reporting.
The news arrived during a wider restructuring at EA that also included layoffs and the closure of BioWare. EA separately reaffirmed its commitment to the next Star Wars Jedi game, so this collaboration was not presented as its replacement.

Respawn Is What Makes This Pairing Interesting
DICE is the obvious connection to Battlefront, having developed EA’s 2015 and 2017 entries. Respawn adds another studio with a strong shooter background and experience making games in the Star Wars universe.
That gives the partnership a clear appeal. DICE already knows the challenge of building large Star Wars battles, while Respawn’s work on Titanfall and Apex Legends shows what it can do with movement, weapons and responsive combat. Those strengths could work well together without turning Battlefront into a copy of either series.
The appeal of Battlefront II is its variety: ordinary troopers, powerful heroes, ground vehicles and starfighters all offer different ways to experience a Star Wars battle. A sequel’s challenge would be making those roles feel satisfying while giving players reasons to care about the battle around them.
Sharper shooting would help, but it is only part of what makes Battlefront work. The scale, atmosphere and balance between different combat roles matter just as much. That is where a DICE–Respawn collaboration becomes more interesting than either studio’s name alone.
Respawn also has an established relationship with Lucasfilm Games beyond the Jedi series. Its involvement makes sense, although neither studio has explained how responsibilities on the new project will be divided.

What Happened to the Bungie Rumor?
Earlier coverage had pointed to a different possibility. As The Game Post reported, EGM’s Quartermann rumor column named Bungie and DICE as potential developers while Lucasfilm searched for a partner.
That was a report about possible candidates, rather than a signed deal. The newer information is more specific: EA has publicly named Respawn and DICE as collaborators, and Variety’s sources have connected that partnership to Battlefront.
There is no established account of why Bungie was mentioned or how far any discussions went. The useful development is that there is now an actual studio partnership to follow.
Now Battlefront Needs Something to Show
EA’s announcement and Variety’s report do not provide a release date, platforms or gameplay details. For now, the pairing itself is the reason to pay attention.
DICE brings experience with Battlefront’s large battles, and Respawn brings a different set of shooter strengths. If those teams can make the basic act of playing a trooper as exciting as taking control of a famous hero, that would give a new Battlefront a strong foundation. The next reveal needs to show how their collaboration improves the game players have been waiting for.
