Update: The Mandalorian & Grogu Has Wrapped Filming & More

Update: The Mandalorian & Grogu Has Wrapped Filming & More

It’s been about four months since we first heard about The Mandalorian & Grogu heading to theaters, and now we have an exciting update.

Now, we finally have more exciting news about this highly anticipated Star Wars project.

While speaking with Extra TV at the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew premiere at Disneyland, Dave Filoni, co-writer of the film, confirmed that The Mandalorian & Grogu has officially wrapped filming.

Filoni shared, “Nothing… nothing I can share, of course. But, you know, I’m very excited about it as well. Jon and I had a great time working on it, as we always do. It was great seeing Grogu; he’s become such a star. It’s amazing how the show has evolved.

He also added, “The puppetry has come such a long way since season one, and now with the film, it’s incredible to see what we can do. Working with the team, whom I’ve worked with quite a bit, has been fantastic.

Lucasfilm's Dave Filoni REVEALS ‘Ahsoka’ S2 Is Definitely Happening (Exclusive)

We finally have a date to mark on our calendars—May 22, 2026. That’s when The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters making it the first Star Wars movie we’ve seen on the big screen since The Rise of Skywalker back in 2019.

Our Prediction for the First Teaser or Trailer

If we look at how Lucasfilm usually handles its marketing, we can make an educated guess.

Historically, major Star Wars trailers have debuted during big events like Star Wars Celebration. For example:

The teaser for The Force Awakens dropped in November 2014, about 13 months before the film’s release.

The trailer for The Rise of Skywalker debuted during Star Wars Celebration 2019, seven months before its release.

With The Mandalorian & Grogu hitting theaters in May 2026, it’s likely we’ll get the first teaser at Star Wars Celebration 2025, which is expected to take place in April.

This event aligns perfectly with Lucasfilm’s history of hyping upcoming projects.

If not during Celebration, they might aim for a holiday release strategy, perhaps dropping the teaser around December 2025 during Disney’s annual marketing push for its films.

Casting Updates We’re Excited About

We’ve got some exciting casting news to share!

Sigourney Weaver: Can you believe it? The legendary actress from the Alien franchise is joining the cast in a role that’s still under wraps. I don’t know about you, but the idea of her stepping into the Star Wars universe is enough to get me hyped.

Jeremy Allen White: If you loved him in The Bear, you’ll be thrilled to know he’s voicing Rotta the Hutt. That’s right—Jabba’s son from Star Wars: The Clone Wars is making a comeback, and we’re curious to see how he fits into the story.

Jonny Coyne: Fans of The Mandalorian might remember him as the Imperial Warlord from Season 3. He’s back and reportedly playing a bigger role in this new film. If his performance before was any clue, we’re in for something special.
