Who Is Stronger Than Yoda in Star Wars Universe?

Who Is Stronger Than Yoda in Star Wars Universe?

Since the beginning of the Star Wars franchise, fans have been comparing the strengths of the characters. While some characters’ strengths are up for debate, George Lucas made it clear who some of the stronger characters are.

Jedi Grand Master Yoda was one character whose power and abilities never needed to be questioned. Living to 900 years of age meant that Yoda had a much longer time to perfect his craft.

Not only was he an exceptional light-side Force user, but Yoda was an absolute beast with a lightsaber. He was so good that he gained the title of “Greatest Swordsman” of his generation.

The Jedi Master was so skilled that, for some time, everyone thought no one would be able to come close to his power level.

Even so, Yoda faced his fair share of difficulties, proving that he was far from perfect.

So, are there characters who are potentially stronger than Yoda?

Let’s find out.

Five Characters Who Are Potentially Stronger Than Yoda

There’s no doubt that Grand Master Yoda was one of the most powerful Jedi to ever live. For the longest time, it seemed as though he would remain the undisputed greatest swordsman the Jedi Order ever had.

Yoda Master - one of the most powerful Jedi

What made Yoda so great was his unwavering commitment to the light side of the Force.

His consistent meditation and dedication to the Jedi way meant that Yoda was one of the few Jedi who wouldn’t have a difficult time warding off the darkness.

What’s more, it seems as though Yoda’s consistent meditation and self-improvement skyrocketed him to being a top-tier swordsman.

Even so, Yoda’s refusal to cross the moral line, coupled with his great age, meant that in certain situations he was left vulnerable.

Let’s briefly compare him to Mace Windu, for instance.

Mace had his own fighting style in which he took his opponent’s rage and hatred and deflected it back at them.

Now, this isn’t exactly something that the New Order Jedi are taught to do; it lies more in the gray area between what’s morally right and wrong.

Still, Yoda tended to come out on top when he and Mace were sparring one on one.

This begs the question of whether there are any characters, Jedi or otherwise, who have the potential to outperform Yoda.

There are a few who seem capable of coming close to Yoda’s skill level. These characters are:

1) Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker was trained by Grand Master Yoda himself, so it’s no wonder that he is considered to be one of the most powerful Jedi of all time.

This is in no small part thanks to him holding his own against both Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, and bringing an end to the Galactic Empire. What’s even more impressive is that he did all of this without falling to the dark side.

While defeating the Empire may not be enough to prove that he could have been stronger than Yoda, it must be remembered that Yoda was not able to do this himself.

When Yoda faced off against Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine), he failed to defeat him. From there, his health declined and he became a shell of the man we once knew.

What this suggests is that, while Yoda was on an unfortunate decline, Luke’s power and skill could have grown to a point that surpassed the Jedi Master’s.

2) Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn was something of a free agent in the galaxy. He was neither a full-blown Jedi nor was he on the dark side of the Force.

Jinn was disbarred from the Jedi High Council because he refused to fully adhere to the Jedi Code.

What makes him potentially more powerful than Yoda is what he accomplished as a free agent.

Qui-Gon Jinn was the first Jedi to use Force Ghost, which allowed him to return to the living world and pass on his knowledge to his fellow Jedi.

Given how complex this skill is, there is the possibility that he eclipsed even the strongest Jedi, including Yoda.

3) Darth Plagueis

Arguably one of the most powerful Sith Lords who ever lived, Darth Plagueis was a force to be reckoned with.

He served as the master of Darth Sidious, who was responsible for exacting his revenge on the Jedi Order. This was an extremely successful plan, as 99 percent of the Jedi were annihilated in this attack.

The thing that made Plagueis so strong was his near-immortality. He could grant immortality, at will, to anyone he wanted to.

In an attempt to fulfill Darth Bane’s Rule of Two, Plagueis was murdered by his Sith apprentice, Darth Sidious.

Up until that point, his quest for immortality led him into many experiments with the Force that allowed him to become one of the most knowledgeable people in the field.

He may have been one of the only people that could match Yoda wit for wit. Needless to say, if they had had the chance to battle, Yoda would have been given a run for his money.

4) Galen Marek

Also known as Starkiller, Galen Marek was secretly trained by Darth Vader to hunt and eliminate Jedi.

Galen was born to two fugitive Jedi after the events of the Clone Wars. After his mother, Mallie Marek, passed away, his home planet, Kashyyyk, was invaded. Then his father, Kento Marek, was slain by Darth Vader.

However, Vader sensed Galen’s natural power in the Force and took him to the dark side of the Force.

Upon completion of his training, Galen was able to slay some considerably high-value Jedi. His raw talent and emotion-fueled fighting style catapulted him past some of the other Jedi hunters.

There’s no question that he was an incredibly talented kid who could have put up a good fight against Yoda.

5) Mace Windu

As mentioned before, Mace Windu had a unique fighting style that wasn’t exactly what a conventional Jedi like Yoda would use.

Because it involved the deflection of his opponent’s rage, hatred, and other dark emotions back onto them, whenever he and Yoda would spar, Yoda often bested him.

Still, in their respective battles against Darth Sidious, Mace defeated him whereas Yoda was unable to.

Granted, Yoda was already at the end stages of his life and dealing with the ailments that came with it. Still, the stalemate served as an indicator that Mace had the potential to surpass his comrade in strength.

Conclusion

Jedi Grand Master Yoda was one of the most powerful characters to grace the galaxy. But just like everyone else, he had his weaknesses.

This opened the door for other characters to pick up the slack and move in for the title of strongest in the galaxy

There are some characters on both the light and dark sides that have shown they have the power to be stronger than Yoda.
