Black Lightsaber/Darksaber Meaning

Black Lightsaber/Darksaber Meaning

Lightsabers are known for their glowing plasma blades. It comes in so many bright colors and each blade color has a unique meaning.

For instance, Yoda’s lightsaber is green because he is a Jedi. But there are other lightsabers that have a unique color like whitepurple, or orange.

The color black is the most unlikely color because it is the absence of light, so it seems ironic to have a black lightsaber. But because this is science fiction, the possibilities are endless.

DarkSaber in Star Wars

One black bladed laser sword we know of in Star Wars Canon is called the Darksaber. The Darksaber is made by a Mandalorian and its design is very unique to them.

It’s shorter than the usual lightsabers. Also, it looks more like a traditional sword rather than an advanced peace of technological sci-fi weapon.

What I mean by this is that the plasma blade isn’t cylindrical in shape, it’s actually like a flat blade. This is due to how the blade emitter is a slit.

Sith Black Lightsabers

In Star Wars legends, there is something called a Lignan crystal. This was a synthetic crystal made by the Sith.

This crystal makes the lightsaber last longer and burn hotter. What’s impressive about this crystal is that it is so powerful, especially when used in the Dark Side of the Force.

Owner of the Lignan Crystal

The Lost Tribe of Sith was stranded on Kesh and their supply of the Lignan ore, used for making black lightsabers were reserved for the strongest. Only one is known to have received a black Lignan crystal.

Her name is Vestera Khai. She was chosen by a Sith Meditation Sphere named Ship to become a Sith apprentice. Because of this, the Lignan crystal was gifted to her.

Who Wields A Black Lightsaber in Star Wars?

Since there is no clear Canon information on who owned an actual black lightsaber made from a Lignan crystal, we will focus on the Darksaber. There are several wielders of the Darksaber in Star Wars, all of which will be mentioned.

Tarre Vizsla

The first wielder of this weapon was Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi. However, when he passed, it was kept in the Jedi temple until the end of the Old Republic.

Unfortunately, it was stolen by members from the House of Viszla and passed down by the ancestors of Pre Vizsla, the head of Death Watch. He was the owner of the Darksaber by 21 BBY.

Darth Maul

When Darth Maul defeated and killed Pre Vizsla, he took the position of the leader of Death Watch. He also took the Darksaber. Wielding the said weapon, Darth Maul engages in a duel with Darth Sidious. Unfortunately, he was defeated by his old master and Darth Maul had to be taken as a prisoner.

At some point, he was rescued and he went to a Death Watch camp on Zanbar. Here, the Darksaber was returned to him as the weapon was abandoned in the place where Darth Maul and Sidious dueled.

Soon enough, Darth Maul was able to use this weapon against General Grievous. The Darksaber was used in other following battles.

Sabine Wren

The Darksaber came into the hands of another Mandalorian named Sabine Wren during the Age of the Empire. She isn’t only a rebel, and an expert regarding weaponry, she’s also from the House of Vizsla.

She actually had to recover the saber from the Nightsister lair on the planet Dathomir. Once this was done, she trained to use the Darksaber. Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi Knight, instructed her.

After she beat Gar Saxon in a duel, she proved to be worthy of wielding the Darksaber. But she did turn it over to Bo-Katan Kryze, a lieutenant in Death Watch as well as the chief of the Night Owls.

What does the Black Lightsaber Mean in Star Wars?

To Mandalorians, this weapon embodies the authority of the House of Vizsla. Eventually, it was the symbol of the Death Watch.

To them, one deserves the Darksaber if they defeat the prior owner in a fight. This is a strict rule that they follow.

Lignan Crystal

To the Sith, this crystal was a symbol of power and supremacy. It allowed the user to amplify their strength; however, it had a catch.

Unfortunately, the user was susceptible to addicted to using the Lignan crystal. Because they were created for the purpose of defeating the Jedi, its inclination leaned more toward the dark side.

Where to Find the Black Lightsaber Crystal?

The Sith mined Lignan ores on the largest moon of Phaegon III. The Sith starships called Omen and Harbinger were stationed there.

However, they were attacked by Jedi Master Relin Druur and his Padawan, Dred Hassin. The Sith starships, in their attempt to escape, bumped into each other.

Relin Druur used the Lignan ores in Harbinger to destroy the Sith Captain and the ship. On the other hand, Omen crashed into the planet Kesh and the stranded survivors formed the Lost Tribe of Sith.

Fortunately for the Jedi, the Lignan ores are not used by many Sith. This is because the members of the Lost Tribe of Sith was left with a limited supply of the Lignan Ores.

Extended: How to get Black Lightsaber in The Force Unleashed Game?

Star Wars Force Unleashed 1 was a video game released in 2010 for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. It was also released on iOS, 2nd-gen N-gage, Nintendo DS, PSP, and mobile phones equipped with Java.

Anyway, the main character in this game is actually Darth Vader’s apprentice named Starkiller. The game depicts how he transitions from the Dark Side to the Light Side.

In order to obtain the Black-bladed Lightsaber in Force Unleashed 1, the first thing you need to do is to make sure that you’re already in the last level of the game. To be specific, this is the final Death Star level where you battle Vader and the Emperor.

Defeating Darth Vader

In part 1 of this boss battle, the setting is in a hallway. You need to make sure that keep a distance from Darth Vader because you wouldn’t want him to hit you with his lightsaber attacks or his Force Grab.

That being said, you still need to be able to inflict some damage on him. It’s best to use long-distance attacks like Force Lightning when you can.

You also need to be quick in evading his attacks. When he starts to use the red energy attack, act fast and do your best to go behind him. Keep this going and he’ll retreat.

Part 2 shows Vader on the platform, take the opportunity to lunge the objects on the walls at him. The goal is to stun him so you can give yourself an opening to throw another thing at him.

Be ready, Vader will come to you and you’ll have to engage in a duel. Start off on the defense by blocking his attacks and using counter-attacks with Force Repulse.

Wait for him to use the red energy attack again. Simply evade him again, get behind him and attack when he misses you.

Defeating the Emperor

The emperor will start throwing objects at you so be vigilant. Evade the objects and block the attacks by staying behind the structures.

Observe the emperor, you can see that he is in a bubble. As long as he is in this bubble, he won’t take any damage from attacks. You’ll have to be patient and wait while evading the attacks.

When the bubble dissipates, attack with your lightsaber or Force Lightning. If the Emperor has guards, be sure to defeat them so you can gain more energy.

Keep repeating the steps and eventually, you’ll defeat the emperor. Good luck!

Holocron Missions

So after the last boss battles, you’ll have the opportunity to find hidden Holocrons. There are 9 separate missions, and for each mission, there are 15 Jedi Holocrons to find.

You’ll find the Black-bladed Lightsaber Holocron in the 9th mission. It’s the 14th Jedi Holocron you need to find.

To do this, you need to go to the top of the convergence room. Using the elevator to the right, go to the very top. Grab the Holocron at the top of a laser.
