How Old is Cad Bane?

He became a fan-favorite antagonist during his time on The Clone Wars, played a major role in The Bad Batch, and, most recently, made his live-action debut in The Book of Boba Fett.

A lot of time passes between these shows in the Star Wars universe, so you may be wondering: how old is Cad Bane?

In The Clone Wars, Cad Bane is between 40 and 43 years old. He is 43 years old during his appearance on The Bad Batch. Finally, when he shows up in The Book of Boba Fett, he is 71 years old.

How Long Does Cad Bane’s Species Live?

Cad Bane is a Duros, a red-eyed humanoid creature from the planet Duro. The Duros are a very old species in the Star Wars universe, and their average lifespan appears to be similar to that of humans.

Dark Horizons lists the average lifespan of a Duros as 70 years. According to Star Wars Saga Edition, members of this species reach adulthood by age 15. They are considered old by the age of 50 and “venerable” over the age of 70.

Alternatively, Star Wars 5e claims that Duros become adults in their 20s and live around 150 years on average.

All of these sources use non-canon material to establish a Duros’ average lifespan. There is no official word on how long these humanoids can live according to Canon. 

In The Clone Wars

Cad Bane makes his on-screen debut in the first episode of season two of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In this episode, he steals a Jedi holocron and forces Anakin Skywalker to open it by threatening to kill his padawan, Ahsoka.

Bane continues to make appearances throughout The Clone Wars series. He is a ruthless bounty hunter, willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. He is smart, unorthodox, and has a reputation for taking only the highest-paying jobs available.

Bane was originally trained by Jango Fett; in turn, he later mentored Jango’s son and clone, Boba. This student-teacher relationship is shown during The Clone Wars, but an episode that never aired shows this relationship eventually coming to a tumultuous end.

Nevertheless, Bane remains one of the most feared bounty hunters throughout the duration of The Clone Wars. How old was he during this time?

Bane was born in 62 BBY (before the Battle of Yavin). The Clone Wars took place between 22 and 19 BBY. With this in mind, Bane was about 40 years old at the beginning of the Clone Wars and 43 years old when they came to an end.

In The Bad Batch

Cad Bane returns to the screen in season one of The Bad Batch, a spinoff series of The Clone Wars. In this series, he has been hired by the Kaminoans to hunt down Omega, a young female clone of Jango Fett.

The Bad Batch begins with the issuing of Order 66, which effectively ended the Clone Wars as the Jedi were wiped out and Palpatine declared himself Emperor of the new Galactic Empire. 

With this in mind, the series takes place chronologically right after the conclusion of The Clone Wars.

So, the events of The Bad Batch, season one, take place around 19 BBY. This means that Cad Bane is 43 years old during his appearance on the show. 

In The Book of Boba Fett

Cad Bane does not return to the screen until the final two episodes of the first season of The Book of Boba Fett. It is in this series that he makes his live-action debut.

In the show, Bane is the leader of the Pyke Syndicate. His former mentee, Boba Fett, is now the daimyo of Mos Espa on Tatooine (a title formerly held by Jabba the Hutt). Fett is attempting to protect his city from being taken over by the Pykes.

This, of course, leads to a climactic showdown between Bane and Fett at the end of the season finale.  

The Book of Boba Fett is set five years after the destruction of the Second Death Star, in the year 9 ABY. This is approximately 28 years after the end of the Clone Wars.

With this in mind, Cad Bane is about 71 years old at this time.

How Old is Cad Bane When He Dies?

Cad Bane appears to die in his confrontation with Boba Fett.

Their fight takes place in the streets of Mos Espa. Before coming to blows, they exchange words, with Fett calling Bane an old man and Bane responding, “I’m still faster than you.”

This proves to be true, as he outdraws and shoots Fett. Though Fett’s armor offers some protection, Bane shoots him again and quickly gains the upper hand in their duel.

He removes Fett’s helmet and is about to kill him when Fett uses his Tusken-made gaffi stick to sweep Bane’s legs out from underneath them. He then plunges the spear end of the stick into Bane’s chest, apparently killing him.

All of this happens in the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett. As we already established, Cad Bane is 71 years old at the time of his appearance on this show.

Therefore, he is 71 years old at the time of his death.
