The ONLY Jedi Mandalorian

The ONLY Jedi Mandalorian

Mandalorians and Jedi were never easy to put together. Mandalorians built their lives around clan, armor, weapons, and battle, while Jedi were trained to let go of attachment and follow the will of the Force. Their histories were full of conflict, which makes Tarre Vizsla such a strange figure in Star Wars canon.

He was a Mandalorian from House Vizsla, but he also became the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi Order. And even though we still do not know much about his life, the legacy he left behind became one of the most important pieces of Mandalorian history.

Legacy of the Darksaber | Star Wars Rebels | Disney XD

The story of Tarre Vizsla comes to us through the history of the Darksaber. In Star Wars Rebels, Fenn Rau explains that the weapon was created more than a thousand years earlier by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi Order.

Star Wars has not shown us how the Jedi found him, how he was trained, or what it was like for a Mandalorian to grow up inside the Order. But the fact that it happened at all is already strange enough.

Tarre was born into House Vizsla, a Mandalorian house that would later become one of the most important names in Mandalorian history. Somehow, a child from that world ended up becoming a Jedi Knight. He would have been trained with the Jedi, built his own lightsaber, and lived under the rules of an Order that was very different from Mandalore’s warrior culture.

He Created The Darksaber

After Tarre Vizsla became a Jedi, he created the Darksaber.

That detail is what makes his story last beyond his own lifetime. The Darksaber was not just a Mandalorian weapon that happened to look like a lightsaber. It began as the lightsaber of a Mandalorian Jedi, built by Tarre himself while he was part of the Jedi Order.

After Tarre died, the Jedi kept the weapon in their Temple. But House Vizsla eventually took it back, breaking into the Jedi Temple and reclaiming the blade that had once belonged to their ancestor.

From there, the Darksaber became something much bigger. It passed through House Vizsla and became a symbol of power on Mandalore. Mandalorians fought for it, claimed it, and treated it as proof of leadership. That is why Tarre’s legacy is so strange. He became a Jedi, but the weapon he created became one of the most important symbols in Mandalorian history.
