Why Did Revan Own The Rarest Lightsaber in Star Wars?

Why Did Revan Own The Rarest Lightsaber in Star Wars?

Revan is a legendary figure in the Star Wars universe, known for his journey between the forces of Light and Dark sides.

As a character who has played the roles of both a hero and a villain, Revan’s choices of weapons, especially his lightsabers, tell a lot about his complex personality.

Although Revan is commonly seen using a violet and red lightsaber, he also owns the “Heart of the Guardian,” a rare lightsaber with a burnt fiery orange blade that is as unique as Revan himself.

In this article, we will explore why Revan, a character caught between the worlds of Jedi and Sith, came to possess such an extraordinary weapon.

Early Life and Jedi Training

Revan was believed to have been born around 3994 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin).

The journey to rise as a Jedi of Revan began when he was discovered as a Force-sensitive child and taken under the wing of the Jedi Order.

During his training, Revan showed signs of being different.

He was not only powerful in the Force but also deeply curious about its mysteries, often challenging the teachings of his instructors.

As a Jedi Knight

Revan’s natural talent and leadership skills became evident as he rose through the ranks of the Jedi Order.

He became a Jedi Knight and later a respected Jedi General during the Mandalorian Wars.

It was during this period that his views increasingly came into conflict with those of the Jedi Council.

Revan believed in taking a more proactive stance against threats to the galaxy, which eventually led him to defy the Council’s orders and take a faction of Jedi Knights to confront the Mandalorian threat directly.

Path to the Dark Side

Revan’s turn to the dark side began during the Mandalorian Wars after coming into contact with the remnants of the Sith Empire.

Alongside Malak, Revan ventured into the Unknown Regions, where he encountered the reclusive Sith Emperor.

This encounter played a crucial role in their fall to the dark side.

Upon returning, both Revan and Malak had adopted Sith ideologies, branding themselves as Sith Lords and starting a new war against the Republic they once vowed to protect.

Legacy as a Sith

As a Sith Lord, Revan was both feared and admired for his strategic genius and ruthless tactics.

However, his rule was not merely tyrannical; it was also marked by a peculiar sense of order and purpose, suggesting that his intentions might not have been wholly evil.

This complexity makes his eventual redemption—a key theme of his narrative—all the more compelling.

Revan’s early journey is characterized by his struggle with authority, a deep commitment to what he believed was right, and an enduring desire to protect the galaxy—traits that persisted whether he walked in the light or the dark.

Return to the Jedi Side

Revan’s return to the Jedi began when his own apprentice, Malak, turned against him, firing upon Revan’s ship during a battle.

Revan was severely injured, and Malak assumed he had killed his former master.

However, Revan was rescued by Bastila Shan, a Jedi Knight who used the Force to preserve his life.

The Jedi Council decided to erase Revan’s memory, effectively wiping his identity as a Sith Lord and giving him a chance to start anew without the burden of his past sins.

Revan was retrained as a Jedi with no memory of his former self.

During this time, he formed strong bonds with several individuals who became part of his crew aboard the Ebon Hawk.

Throughout his journey, he began to rediscover fragments of his past and learned of his identity as a former Sith Lord.

The Prophecies of the Jedi and Sith About the Owner of a Rare Orange Lightsaber

The significance of lightsaber colors and the crystals that power them is deeply rooted in Star Wars lore.

Each color typically aligns with a specific set of values or abilities.

For instance, blue is often associated with Jedi who are strong in combat, while green signifies those who are wise and strong with the Force.

The burnt fiery orange lightsaber crystal (Heart of the Guardian), however, is enveloped in a prophecy that is deeply rooted in both Jedi and Sith lore.

The Jedi believed that during a time of great turmoil, this mystical orange crystal would appear to help a hero bring peace back to the galaxy.

On the other hand, the Sith held a contrasting prophecy, predicting that the crystal would be found by a figure who would bring further chaos.

Revan, known for his roles as both a savior and a conqueror, was perfectly positioned to fulfill both these prophecies.

His unique dual identity made him the ideal wielder of the Heart of the Guardian, bridging the gap between the light and dark sides of the Force.

The Significance of the Heart of the Guardian in Revan’s Journey

Revan’s acquisition of the Heart of the Guardian was not by conquest but through a transaction with Suvam Tan, a trader on the remote planet of Yavin 4.

This meeting was not just by chance; it seemed destined, as if the Force itself had steered Revan to this moment.

Holding the rare crystal, Revan felt a deeper connection to the Force, enhancing his abilities and helping him on his quest for balance.

However, despite owning it, Revan chose not to use the Heart of the Guardian in battle.

Instead, he continued to wield other lightsabers, primarily those with purple and red blades.

The decision to keep the Heart of the Guardian without using it in combat was very telling of Revan’s character.

This choice might have been strategic, helping him to avoid drawing too much attention to the immense power he possessed.

Alternatively, it could reflect his ongoing internal conflict between his past as a Sith Lord and his redeemed state as a Jedi.

By not wielding the orange lightsaber, Revan maintained his flexibility, keeping others unsure of his true intentions and allegiance.

This unpredictability was a key trait that allowed him to navigate the complex political and military landscapes he found himself in.

Revan’s story, especially his connection with the Heart of the Guardian, highlights the complexities of destiny and choice in the Star Wars universe.

The rare lightsaber crystal symbolizes not just Revan’s power but also his deep internal struggles and his continuous effort to find balance within himself and the galaxy.

His legacy in the Star Wars saga serves as a reminder of how one individual’s choices can affect the course of history, reflecting the ongoing battle between light and darkness within us all.
