Why Were Orange Lightsabers So RARE?

Why Were Orange Lightsabers So RARE?

Orange lightsabers are quite rare in the Star Wars universe. The most notable appearance of an orange lightsaber is with Cal Kestis, the main character in the video game “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.”

Additionally, the ‘Ahsoka’ miniseries introduces viewers to the Dark Jedi Skoll and Hati, who wield orange lightsabers.

These sightings have made fans excited and hopeful that orange lightsabers might show up more in Star Wars stories.

But why are they so rare? It could be because there aren’t many orange kyber crystals, or maybe there’s another reason in the Star Wars world.

Kohlen Kyber Crystal: The Creation of the Orange Lightsaber

One reason orange lightsabers are so rare is that the orange kyber crystals needed to create them are found only on the planet Pijal.

In the novel “Star Wars: Master and Apprentice,” Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s mission to Pijal leads to the discovery of the Kohlen Crystal, an orange gem unique to the planet.

Locals utilized these kohlen crystals to create energy shields capable of deflecting blaster shots.

Through further investigation, the Jedi discovered these crystals could also energize lightsabers. However, they discovered that lightsabers using Kohlen Crystals produced an orange lightsaber, which was significantly weaker than the usual blue or green lightsabers.

Their find becomes even more important because of an old Jedi prophecy. It says finding this special crystal means a chosen one will soon appear.

The prophecy declares, “When the kyber that is not kyber shines forth, the time of prophecy will be at hand

There is fan theory offers a fascinating take on how orange lightsabers might have come into existence in the Star Wars universe. It suggests that some Jedi could have turned their yellow kyber crystals orange by exposing them to the dark side’s influence, a process known as bleeding.

However, this hypothesis is clarified by referencing a specific event in the video game “Star Wars: Jedi Survivor,” where a character named Dangan Gera attempts to bleed his yellow kyber crystal, but it turns completely red instead of orange.

This detail from the game, which is confirmed to be part of Star Wars canon, provides an interesting perspective on the lore surrounding kyber crystals and the process of bleeding them to change their color, highlighting that the intended manipulation does not always yield expected results.

Who Wield The Orange Lightsaber

Yadle: The One Below

Yadle is one of a few Jedi Masters who wield the orange lightsaber.

Originally, she had a green one, like many Jedi.

Her story gets interesting after she escapes from a long time in prison on the planet Koba. When Yaddle got back to Coruscant, the Jedi were so impressed that they made her a Jedi Master right away and gave her a spot on the Jedi High Council.

That’s when she decided to make a new lightsaber with an orange blade.

Yaddle used her orange lightsaber until she passed away on Mawan in 26 BBY.

Plo Koon

In Star Wars canon, Jedi Master Plo Koon is known for wielding a blue lightsaber during the Clone Wars, symbolizing his steadfast loyalty and strength.

Plo Koon mainly uses a blue lightsaber in the Star Wars saga we all follow.

It’s rare, but there are a few times he’s been seen with an orange lightsaber. However, these moments aren’t part of the official story now.

For those of you curious to see him with an orange lightsaber, you can check him out in the “Star Wars Episode I – Jedi Power Battles” video game.

You're Right Were No JEDI Baylan Skoll & Shin Hati First Appearance | Ahsoka Episode 1

In the new “Ahsoka” series, we meet two characters, Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, who are dark Jedi with orange lightsabers.

Dave Filoni, who created and produced the show, chose orange lightsabers for them on purpose.

Dave Filoni just explained the Orange Lightsabers...

Dark Jedi, also called Fallen Jedi, are different from regular Jedi and Sith. They were once Jedi but now use the dark side of the Force, without being Sith.

A youngling can also learn from another dark Jedi instead of the Jedi Order. The story says the first dark Jedi was Xendor.

He wanted to start a new Jedi academy focused on the dark side of the Force but was turned down by the Jedi High Council.

So, Xendor left the Jedi Order and founded his own academy on a planet named Lettow, calling it the Legions of Lettow.
