How Tall Is The Jedi Temple?

The Jedi Temple

Having shelter is one of the most important things for any living being. Unfortunately, every person does not have access to shelter, regardless of how necessary it is.

Certainly, the inhabitants of the Star Wars universe are no different.

Although they often engaged in many humanitarian missions, the Jedi still needed a place to call their own upon their return. This is where the Jedi Temple came in.

The Jedi Temple is comparable to on-campus housing for a college or university in our reality. It’s a place where all Jedi go to be with others on the same journey as themselves.

Given the importance of this structure, how much is known about it? How tall is the Jedi Temple? What is it built over?

All are valid questions that will be addressed throughout this article.

So keep reading to find out more.

How tall is the Jedi Temple?

The Jedi Temple, sometimes referred to as the Palace of the Jedi, is the home of the Jedi.

This place served as the headquarters for the entire Jedi Order, all the way from the Great Sith War to the heartbreaking events of Order 66

During that time, the Jedi Temple served as a base camp for all things Jedi.

Here, the Padawans began their training and tutelage. The Jedi Knights continued their practice of the Jedi Code, as well as the correct use of the Force.

What’s more, the Jedi High Council used the Temple as their meeting place for diplomatic appointments and meetings among themselves.

The Jedi Temple stood at approximately 3,300 feet tall. On top of that, no one was allowed to enter the Temple, aside from the Jedi and their allies.

That was until Order 66 came into play.

Dubbed the Great Jedi Purge, Order 66 came about when the Clone Troopers were tampered with. This corruption prompted the clones to view all Jedi as the enemy, and move forward with the eradication of said “enemy.”

While this war was raging, former Jedi turned Sith Lord, Anakin Skywalker, stormed the Temple as Darth Vader, with his painfully effective attack.

After it was over, most of the Jedi Order had been depleted, with their Temple left abandoned and almost fully destroyed.

What is the Jedi Temple built above?

In a strange twist of irony, the Jedi Temple was originally built above a Sith Shrine

Yes, you read that right. The Jedi Temple was built atop a Sith Shrine.

The Sith built this shrine on the planet Coruscant over 5000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire. The shrine was built on a Force Nexus, also known as a Vergence.

This Force Nexus, in particular, was so powerful that it became known as the Sacred Spire

The Sith constructing their shrine on top of this immensely potent light side vergence was no mistake.

They purposefully did this so they could fill that spire with all the negative Force energy the dark side had to offer.

Ultimately, they succeeded after the conclusion of Order 66.

What level is the Jedi Temple on?

The planet Coruscant is a city-covered planet that came under the dark side’s ruling during the era of the Galactic Empire. During this time, Coruscant became known as the Imperial Center.

It is believed that the Coruscant system was the planet where humanity originated in Star Wars.

Coruscant is made up of multiple levels, an astounding 5127 levels exactly.

The Jedi Temple was located in the Temple Precinct, which sits on the top level. This is on level 5127 specifically. This bodes well for the Temple as it is a relatively short building.

How tall are Coruscant buildings?

Now, you must be thinking, “With that many levels, the buildings on Coruscant must be architectural masterpieces,” right?

Well, you would be right.

Given how populated Coruscant is, there isn’t a lot of real estate to build massive structures. Therefore the architects on Coruscant had to do something to maximize the space they’ve been given.

Although each level’s exact height isn’t known, it has been made clear that many of the buildings were constructed in a skyscraper fashion.

With this in mind, it’s not surprising that many buildings on Coruscant were erected at around 19,600 feet tall.

The tallest building is approximately a whopping 20,000 to 25,000 feet tall.

That building is speculated to be the 500 Republica, as the 500 Republica has been recognized as one of the tallest structures on Coruscant.

Not only that, but it is also one of the most momentous.

Within the walls of 500 Republica lies more technology and people than some of the other planets combined.

How old is the Jedi Temple on Coruscant?

Before the pre-Jedi Purge, the Jedi Temple was one of the oldest on Coruscant.

After the very first temple, called the Jedi Academy built on Ossus, was destroyed, the new Jedi Temple was constructed by four Jedi Masters, dubbed the Four Masters.

They decided to relocate to Coruscant. They found the mountain peak where the Sith Shrine was built, and below that Shrine was the Sacred Spire and thought that would be the perfect spot for the new Jedi Temple.

This is because, despite the Sith Shrine, the Sacred Spire was a light side nexus. That is a concentrated source of light side Force energy. Ergo, by building the Jedi Temple above nexus, it allowed for the temple to be filled with nothing but light side Force energy.

Since then, the Jedi Temple stood for a mind-boggling 4000 years.

Needless to say, this record was obliterated after the tragedy of the Jedi Purge.

Conclusion

The Jedi Temple was a sacred place that stood at around 3,300 feet tall.

This is where the Jedi would rest, train, learn, meditate and ultimately feel safe. It houses almost everyone in the Jedi Order

From Padawans to Jedi Masters. And of course, there were the Jedi Temple Guards, who were tasked with protecting the temple and its inhabitants.

This temple was built to stand the test of time. What’s more, the Jedi Temple being constructed on a Sith Shrine presented one of the most interesting plot twists in the galaxy.

Having been destroyed once before on a completely different planet then moved to the most economically developed planets in the galaxy, is an impressive feat.

Then there is the fact that the Jedi Temple was built on a Sith Shrine and stood there for about 4000 years until it was wrecked in Order 66, after which it was renovated.
