Leslye Headland says The Acolyte had a much larger plan for Manny Jacinto’s Qimir if the Star Wars series had continued.
The show was canceled after one season in 2024, leaving several major pieces unresolved. Osha had left with Qimir, Vernestra Rwoh was covering up what really happened, Darth Plagueis had appeared in the shadows, and the finale ended with Yoda being brought into the story.
Headland recently told Empire that she has seen renewed interest in the series since its cancellation. “I’m having a resurgence of The Acolyte in my real life,” she said, explaining that fans have continued to approach her and tell her they were disappointed the show did not continue.
She also made it clear that she would return to Star Wars if Lucasfilm ever gave The Acolyte another chance. “I would still want to do it! Absolutely,” Headland said. “As more people discover it, I think people may want to see some form of the story come back.”
The biggest reveal is what Season 2 would have explored. Headland said the team had plans for Qimir that went beyond the events of the first season, including “tying in lore to the sequels.” She specifically mentioned digging into who Qimir really is, his connection to Vernestra, his connection to Plagueis, and his connection to “other sequel-established things.”
That would have made Qimir one of the show’s most important links to the larger Star Wars timeline. The Acolyte was set long before the Skywalker saga, but Season 2 would have started connecting its dark-side story to later events and ideas from the sequel era.
