Is Cad Bane A Pyke? What Is His Species?

Is Cad Bane A Pyke? What Is His Species?

Cad Bane is one of the more notorious characters in Star Wars. A well-known bounty hunter, Bane saw his fair share of battles with Jedi during the Clone Wars, and he even underwent missions during the age of the Galactic Empire.

Bane had a rather unique appearance, and one that gives him resemblance to several species in the Star Wars galaxy. Therefore, you may be wondering what exactly is his species.

While many believe Cad Bane is a Pyke, he is really a Duros. You can tell he is not a Pyke because of his deep blue skin tone; Pykes have either light blue or teal skin. Bane did work for the Pyke Syndicate, meaning he was closely aligned with the species.

Who is Cad Bane?

Cad Bane was one of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunters who rose to prominence during the Clone Wars. While Jango Fett was often thought of as the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy, many proclaimed Bane as the second best.

During the First Battle of Geonosis, Fett met his match against Mace Windu, leaving Bane as the top bounty hunter. He found his niche in dueling Jedi, and even fought Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Thanks to his skills, experience, and disdain for the Jedi Order, Bane’s actions caught Darth Sidious’ attention. He found repeated work with the Sith Lord, going as far as to invade the Jedi Temple for a kyber memory crystal.

Bane was also active during the Galactic Empire Era and even during the Era of the New Republic. However, he met his end in 9 ABY at Boba Fett’s hands on Tatooine while working for the Pyke Syndicate, hoping to expand their spice trade.

Is Cad Bane a Pyke?

Cad Bane was not a Pyke. Pykes come from the planet Oba Diah while Bane’s homeworld is Duro. Bane did, however, bear some resemblance to the Pykes at first glance, which is why it can be easy to mistake Bane for one.

Bane had blue skin, and Pykes can have either light blue or teal skin. He had red eyes, however, and Pykes either have blue, magenta, or purple. Like Bane’s species, Pykes are also humanoid creatures that carry a lankier build, similar to Bane’s 6’1”, 165lb frame.

Pykes had three fingers on each hand, while Bane had five. You can also tell Bane was not a Pyke because he had a more proportioned face than the aforementioned species; Pykes are described as possessing smaller proportioned faces and larger heads.

What Species is Cad Bane?

Duros bounty hunter Cad Bane

Cad Bane was a Duros, a species that had a rather diverse genetic makeup. Bane’s species can have either blue, gray, green, purple, or turquoise skin. They can also have gold, yellow, or red eyes.

The Duros’ large eyes are one of the more distinguishing traits for the species, along with their lack of nose and green blood. The Duros also have lipless mouths and oil that fills sacs around their rib cages when they find themselves under stress.

Hailing from Duro, one of the core worlds, the species is an adventurous one, and it is common to see them in many sectors of the galaxy.

Next to Cad Bane, there were other prominent Duros scattered about the galaxy throughout the Star Wars franchise. You could find many in the Jedi Order, with Rana Kant serving as one of the most influential. Others, like Darth Caldoth, became prominent members of the Sith.

Although the notorious Cad Bane is one of the most well-known Duros, many in the species joined the Rebel Alliance following the rise of the Galactic Empire, thanks to the planet quickly falling to the Imperials.

Why Does Cad Bane Have Tubes?

Given his occupation and background working with galactic crime syndicates, Cad Bane showed up as one of the more cunning, clever characters in Star Wars. While many in the galaxy use tubes or other devices to assist them with breathing in harsher climates, Bane had other ideas.

While the tubes assisted Bane’s breathing, they also better equipped him to fight and counter Force-sensitives. These tubes particularly allowed Bane to survive Force chokes. Breathing tubes, however, are just one of a few clever pieces in Bane’s arsenal.

Bane was lethal with his twin blaster pistols and wrist gauntlets that stunned opponents and shot flames. He also had a blaster carbine, explosives, rocket boots, and a bola, which is a unique snaring contraption.

Are Shriv and Thrawn the Same Species as Cad Bane?

Shriv Suurgav was a Duros, just like Cad Bane. Unlike Bane, however, Shriv was a good guy who fought for the Rebel Alliance in the Galactic Civil War.

Some of Shriv’s more notable achievements included fighting in the Battle of Endor and saving Naboo from Imperial assaults.

He also helped end the Empire’s influence for good during the Battle of Jakku. When the First Order arose decades later, Shriv would also fight for the Resistance.

Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn Mitth'raw'nuruodo

Mitth’raw’nuruodo, better known as Thrawn, was not part of Cad Bane and Shriv’s species. Instead, he was a Chiss from the planet Rentor.

Like Shriv, he also fought in the Galactic Civil War, but he sided with the Galactic Empire, serving as an Admiral in the Imperial Navy.
